I am currently evaluating B1 to see how it will handle Job Costing and processing. We are a trading company that wants to know sales/costs/margin, actual vs budget on each deal we do. These are not large construction projects, normally 5 transactions per deal. B1 doesnt have a Job Cost module, so has anyone built something around project codes or other components in B1?

Not sure if its of any help, but Ive set up something a little similar to this. I create a quotation thats effectively used as a call off. In the quotation I ensure that the cost price is fixed (in fact in the quotation lines you could expand this to include a current price and a budget price or whatever you require).
The user automatically calls off against the quotation. At the end the user is able to compare the invoice(s) price and cost of goods against the quoted (budgeted).
This approach is simple and easy to use, and ideal if you are doing small projects, but lacks the sophistication offered by the project field in B1 (which enable both purchasing, sales and other financial data to be analysed.
Best wishes
Dave

Kent,
There is Business One Partner in the US that will be/is in process of integrating their Job Costing system with Business One. Contact information is attached.

Enprise have a solution, which is Job Costing.
It costs about $1000 per JC user.
You can view their details at: http://www.enprise.com/
Otherwise, there is a project code that can be attached to each transaction at either the header or line level.
I think that with XL Reporter, you will be able to generate a project margin report. Also, the internal project table is 8, 30, so you can add many more columns to it for budgets etc.
