Problems with VBFA table (transparent or cluster???)

Former Member

Hello,

We are right now running the upgrade process from SAP R/3 46C to SAP ERP 6.0

We've found out that the VBFA table has changed from transparent to cluster.

The thing is that we have created some alternative index on this table, and it's used on custom views and queries, wich is no longer possible.

According to the SAP Note 121799, it's possible to keep this table as transparent, but I really don't know if it's the must convenient to do.

Does anyone has face the same problem??

are there alternate index tables for VBFA, that allow a better performance when searching on them?

Thank you

Hi Felipe,

If you have created an append structure for table VBFA, you must make

sure during the SPDD that table VBFA is transparent in the dictionary.

Otherwise data might be lost!!!

Providing you defined only views or secondary indices for the table VBFA

and only these objects are displayed as incorrect in phase ACT_ then you can exit the phase with 'Ignore'.

If additional errors

occurred, correct them and repeat the phase with 'repeat' until only the

error concerning table VBFA is reported. Then continue with 'Ignore'.

During phase PCON, table VBFA is automatically converted into a

transparent table in the dictionary, providing this corresponds to the

database status. The views and secondary indices are retained as well.

Further actions on the part of the user are not required.

regarding the performence problem

It depends in what application (business process) you need

a better performance for the table VBFA.

for example SAP note

148868 Erlösrealisierung: VBFA-Performanceverbesserung

suggest to create a spezial index.

please look for VBFA and performance among the SAP notes

SAP Note 121799:

If you have made table VBFA transparent again and additionally appended your own fields using an append structure, then you must intervene before phase PCON. Otherwise, data might be lost.

If you have created an append structure for table VBFA, you must make sure during the SPDD that table VBFA is transparent in the dictionary. Otherwise data might be lost!!!

We've check the new installed ECC 6.0 ehp5 system, VBFA is still transparent. We've appended a structure to VBFA and during SPDD, it prompts VBFA in target version is Cluster table, so we need set VBFA in SPDD with cluster table and add the z* appendix, right? Otherwise (if we set SPDD as transparent table), the database view which is based on VBFA should be activated without any error!

How to understand? Set to cluter or transparent in SPDD for VBFA in this case?

Thanks,

James
