Posting of Price change document on release of Cost estimate.

While creating an invoice in SD the accounting documents were not being released. This was due to an error of cost estimate. After investigation we found that the "Future" cost estimate was not maintained in "MM02". Therefore we created and marked the cost estimate so that it appears as "Future" cost estimate in MM02.

After two days while doing outbound deliveries from SD the cost estimate was somehow released from transaction VL02 and a price change document was posted.

Also before we had created the cost estimate the material price in system had fallen.

Please comment as to why the price change document was posted with a certain amount?

Need urgent comments and advices on what to do next?

Regards,

Shumyl Akram

If the material is mainatined on price control 'S' i.e. stanadard price and you change the standard cost estimates, then system posts price change document for difference between old and new std price. The inventory get revalued.

If you do not want these entry to be then maintain the price control as 'V'.

Thanks Rakesh!

You are right that in saying the price change document is posted for standard price changes. But please tell me how can a Cost estimate be released at the time of outbound delivary (VL02) when the new cost estimate was only marked and not released from CK24.

And how can we calculate the value posted by the price change document?

Shumyl

The amount of variance posted will be difference between new std price less old std price multiplied by the stock qty on the date of cost release.

You can check the document type PR in t code MR51.

You have mentioned that you are using sales order costing. Check the setting in requirement class, which must be allowing for automatic marking. Once price is gets marked system starts using this for all goods receipt. There is no cost release required for sales order costing. For goods receipt with old cost, system generates variance entry.

And where exactly we can check weather the sales order costing is tunred on?

Check the account assignment category. Account assignment category in combination with requirement types & class will determine this.

Hi Rakesh,

Can you give more details? Would you know the tcode? We are also encountering a similar issue. Price change document was generated upon delivery using VL02N. We are not using cost estimates, hence, there are no costs marked. We update our material standard price directly via MR21. As such, would also like to know how to check as we are not really expecting the price change document.

Thanks,

Irene
