Hi,

Client is the server on which you login. Each server has it's totally different data set. You may have different servers For example Production server for day to day activities, Production Back up server, Development Server, Q A Server. In the real business scenario, Client may represent a Corporate Group

In each client, a company is defined. Each client may have different companies. Each company will be having company code & it's own chart of account. In real world the company may be a subsidiary under the corporate group.

Hopw your query is fulfilled. Reward points if helpful.

Dear Prasanth

You can many clients in a Server.Example in your dev server you can have 3 to 4 clients adn used for different pruposes like one for Functional devlopments , One for Technical devlopments and one as Sand box.

One of the most basic concepts in SAP is that of "Client". A client is defined as a legally and organizationally independent unit within SAP R/3. One of the first things SAP asks for at the time of login is the client number. SAP R/3 comes inbuilt with three standard clients viz. 000, 001 and 066.

<b>Client 000</b> - Client 000 is a special client in SAP since it has client independent settings. Client 000 in SAP R/3 comes with a simple organizational structure. It is a sort of test company. Client 000 contains all standard configurations, parameters, standard transactions, etc that are normally used in the SAP R/3 business environment.

<b>Client 001</b> - Client 001 is a copy of client 000. Client 001 also includes a test company. Client 001 can be customized to prepare it to move it into the production environment. However, once client 001 is customized, it does not behave like client 000.

<b>Client 066</b> - Client 066 is used to perform "Early Watch" service for customer systems.

One important thing to remember is that during SAP R/3 implementation, once SAP is installed, the first thing to be done is copy a standard client included in SAP R/3 package. With the help of this, SAP users can start using SAP for creating tests, training, or even start using it for customization.

HI,

1)The number of characters to define Enterprise structure are 3. Therefore you may define 999 clients maximum.

2)If it is the only company then you may define XYZ as your company. If there is additional subsidiary company, then it should be defined as additional company.

3)MM module is required for all companies which deal with material procurement. If your software company is having procurement as it core function, then you should go for MM module implementation

4)Pl. refer above answer in point no. 3

Hope it will fulfill your query. Reward if the answer is helpful

By Client I mean the company in The enterprise structure. It has the space to enter maximum of 6 characters and this is the number given in SAP help.

By Client what exactly you mean???

The company in the enterprise sturcture and the client are not the same , they are two different things. Client is usually the instance in which you are set up. The company is within the IMG.
