The old material number - F1 help message as

You can use the old material number to systematically search for

material master records via matchcodes.

-What's mean by match code , how do we check it,plz

hi

old mat no is used to search the material if u go to MM03 do F4 in the material field

then if u see the tabs u will find one of search as per old material no .

matchcodes

A matchcode allows you to locate the key of a particular database record (e.g. account number) by entering any field value contained in the record. The system then displays a list of records matching the specifications.

Hello Suresh

In some business scenarios, you might have to change the materail code for som minor changes, might be in packing cover design and all.

So in that case you will maintain the old material number.
