MRP Type X0 but No BOM explosion

Good Day

I have an issue within ECC 6.0 relating to Manufactured Materials using MRP type X0.

Currentlywe have a multi level BOM consisting of three levels. Material A = PD and consumes Material B. Material B = X0 and consumes Material C. Material C = PD and is the raw material.

Although we're not actually planning Material B in APO, we still want the BOM to be exploded during the MRP run and dependant demand placed upon Material C. At present I'm not seeing this occur within ECC. Demand is placed on Material B from Material A but there is no demand placed on Material C from Material B (Doesn't look like the BOM is exploded). Based on all the information I could get my hands on, X0 provides this functionality. MRP should not plan the X0 material but should still explode it's BOM for lower level planning. Whats not clear is whether or not this will work solely within ECC. Does anyone have similar experience with this issue? Will the functionality only work if the BOM is exploded within APO?

I've looked at OSS note 371405 which describes the problem but it's only valid for a much older version of SAP.

Alex,

I dont see a problem here if i have understood your concern properly.

Let me explain,

Lets say there is demand of 100 units for Material A, during MRP run BOM of A is exploded and it creates dependent requirement for B say 100 Units and at this stage no further planning happens for B as it is defined to be planned in an external system (APO). MRP does not explode BOM against dependent requirement of Material A.

As per you you are also not planning material B in APO, so there is no subsequest Planned order created for Material B. In this case if you run MRP for C, there is no demand coming from B as there are no planned order for B and hence no BOM explosion.

Now my question is if you are having X0 for Material A, how have you really planned the planning process for this material? Are you going to create manual planned orders for this material?

Thanks Prasobh

We are planning Material A via MRP = PD

Material B has been set to X0. This material is a KANBAN material so MRP planning is not required.

Material C is planned via MRP as well.

I wanted to know if the functionality surrounding X0 is only applicable to APO. In other words is ECC able to explode the requirements for Material B or does this have to occur in APO? The SAP documentation states that this can be done but it is not clear on which system does the explosion. APO or ECC or both?

Alex,

Ok, so you have a intermediate material which is planned through KANBAN and you dont want to have the KANBAN integration with MRP. In this case you need to have Consumption based planning MRP type for Material C. Please go through the SAP Help document on this in the link [KANBAN without MRP|http://help.sap.com/erp2005_ehp_04/helpdata/EN/cb/7f8aef43b711d189410000e829fbbd/frameset.htm]

Now coming to your question in X0 MRP type, in this case if the material is planned in APO then the planned order is created in APO for the material but the system would look for the BOM in R/3 and it will not look for APO PPM for this Product.

Hope this clarifies,

Thank You!

One final question. So when mention that "the system would look for the BOM in R/3" are you referring to APO? If this is the case then would I be correct in saying that the BOM explosion is only executed by APO and not MRP for MRP type X0?

Dear ,

MRP with MRP type X0 will not explode the BOM rather it will happen in APO system as per as I know .MRP type X0 in R/3 tells the system that this material is planned externally. You can control the materials you CIF from R/3 to APO via the

integration model you set up. In the integration model you can specify:

Material

  • Plant

  • Material Type

  • Plant Spec. Material Status

  • MRP Cont.

  • MRP characteristic

  • ABC Indicator

  • Del Flg Plant level

  • Procurement Type

etc .

Hope this is clear .
