material discontinuation in MRP 4 tab

Hello gurus,

I am trying to run a cycle to discontinue a material with MRP activated with a new material. I have given the discontinuation indicTOR  and date as well as a follow on material number. But still after the discontinuation date when I run the MRP instead of getting the follow on material I am getting the old material.

Please help if any other settings need to be maintained or any modifications need to be done in the procedure.

Ok I did try afresh with new material, again giving the discontinuation indicator and follow on material, but still on running the MRP I am still getting it for the old material. The new material is still not being displayed. In actual sense on running MRP for the old material after the discontinuation date the system should show the discontinuation date and create a new planned order/ purchase req for the new material, the follow on material. It is not working so.

Please help find the error

Ensure the base unit of measure of the follow-up material to be the same as that of the part to be discontinued.

as specified earlier I have maintained them the same...base UOM are same, all parameters of the material are same, the case is to introduce new material with a new material type (newly created) and hence the discontinuation for the old material. All parameters are same and still not working, can anyone give a complete working cycle of how discontinuation works, or if any more configurations are needed other than introducing the indicator in material mastr and giving the follow on material with the discontinuation date and maintaining all parameters same as the old material? any changes or specific mrp type that should/would work?

Yes it should but its not....i did give the indicator, follow up material, with the same base uom, what more needs to be done? Do we have to give some details in the follow up material too? Does the MRP parameters have to be changed? I am using external procurement with MRP type PD. I have tried it with both planned order and pur req but in both cases even after the effective out date I am getting the same old material. What more needs to be done here?

it will work only for the plan orders created subsequently. it may not for the rescheduled ones.

Gikesh,

In MRP view, if you tick discontinued indicator, give effective date, and put the replacement material along with the condition that base unit of measure are same, it should work.

Thanks but still its not working....If i want to say discontinue a material with no BOM, I give the discontinuation indicator 1 and the new material with the follow on date but still while running MRP I am getting the old material instead of the new one. What more settings need to be done
