HI EVERYONE

We are implementing S4 HANA ECC 6.0 EHP 7 1503. The business require two units of measure Carats and Pieces. But there is no conversion Factor between them. Please guide if it is possible to maintain these two UOM.

Hi Priyesh,

In the material master data you can maintain additional unit of measurement in the Additional data of MMR.

Please check & revert back!!

Than you can maintain unit of sales in different from base unit of measure!!

Or the other option to maintain batch specific unit of measure through Logistic-General!!

I think we can make use of the Basic Data 2>client specific configuration>additional s>sales unit of the Material master for the unit carat.

& we can keep pieces & AUOM in different place in the Material master.

@Experts: Kindly correct me if I am wrong.

If you are batch managed, you could look at proportional / product units... so for every batch a pieces would be equal to a different number of carats.

Hi,

When two unit of measurements requires for a material- maintenance of conversion factor  is a must where Carat unit of measure represent unit of mass and Pieces considered as a unit or an element or a portion.

at some point you need a relation, of course it can't be at a general level in the material master  as carat and pieces have no real relation, except you create individual material masters per carat of the stone.

If you manage it with 1 material master for different carats then you need to have the relation at the batch level (also I cannot really imagine how you would label the stone with a batch number)

The batch specific units are well explained in the document

Hi,

Out of curiosity: why is these reuqest put on the system? How come 2 units on the same P/N are not convertible? If you have these 1 P/Ns and you will do the same operation using these 2 UoMs then how system should price them, how should the stock be kept - this does not sound logical...

As per standard design, the conversion factor is required since there are so many dependencies. For example, Stock overview (MMBE) - Stock are always maintaining at basic UOM, suppose if you do the receipts in different UOM, then how the system converts to basic UOM, MRP requirement display (MD04) - System always shows the Plant requirement in basic UOM, suppose if you create PO in different UOM, then how system converts to basic UOM , etc., These are the reasons why enhancement too not possible.
