item code being replace to nearest item from item master data

Hi,

In item master, there are item code ABC & DEF.

When user key in AB, SAP automatically filled up to ABC.

When user key in DE, SAP automatically filled up DEF.

Customer is using copy table and it will filled up a lot of wrong item code.

Any setting to turn off or it is system behavior? Any idea to over come other than key in the correct item code in SAP master data?
