Information for CMIS with S/4HANA Cloud

Hello Experts,

In S/4HANA Cloud, the Archive link connection to external DMS is no longer supported and replcaed by the CMIS Standard.

However, I cannot find information on CMIS and how to setup CMIS-based integration from S/4HANA cloud to external DMS-systems.

Does someone have more details on this?

thank you,

Johannes

Hi Johannes,

Yes, your're right, in the SAP S/4HANA Cloud world, managing documents must be via CMIS and ArchiveLink is not supported. CMIS is an open interface that allows SAP applications, partner solutions and customers to connect to SAP S/4HANA Cloud and the SAP Cloud Platform (SCP).

We do have API's published to Create, Read, Update Document Info Records:

API's published for Attachment – Create, Read, Rename, Delete

(This service enables managing the attachments based on Document Management (DMS), and Generic Object Services (GOS) – functionalities as creating, reading, renaming, and deleting attachments)

Hope this helps!

Hello Amith,

I still don't get it. I know all the APIs. But where and what is CMIS then? Or would APIs for Document metadata and attachments now be the same in all DMS systems (also non SAP)? Certainly not, because even the distinction between DMS and GOS is something very SAP specific.

Say some non-SAP DMS system claims to be CMIS-compliant. What does it mean? Can S/4HANA Cloud then be connected very easily? Or would it still mean implementing all SAP-specific APIs?

I am asking all thin because we are implemementing S/4HANA Cloud for a customer, and he is asking what DMS to choose. Any suggestions?

thank you!

Johannes

helo again, i found this documentation:

As a part of the new solution, files, document info records (DIRs), and business object links are stored as CMIS documents, CMIS folders, and CMIS items respectively in the content repositories. Since repositories store more business semantics now, they can be queried to accommodate the daily business and forecasts.

I could interpret this as if SAP has chanegd the way of storing metadata. An object link would now be a "CMIS item". And where are the mentioned content repositories persisted? is this in S/4HANA cloud or do they mean in the external DMS? a bit obscure to me.
