Impossible to approve Batch Master Record due to missing UD on Inspection Lot 04

Dear Experts,

I'm facing a strange system behavior while trying to approve BMR before releasing goods.

Here's my case :

1. 1.      Release of process Order. At this stage, batch is generated and IL 03 and 04 are created.
2. 2.       Results recording on IL 03 and usage decision on inspection lot 03 (System status goes to UD / LOLK)
3. 3.      Goods receipt on process order
4. 4.      Creation of BMR from COEBR
5. 5. Process order technical completion (system status set to TECO)

At the time I try to approve MBR, I get an irrelevant error message from the system saying IL 04 is missing UD...

But UD on 04 IL is supposed to take place only once batch has been validated and archived....

Any idea ?

Implement  SAP note 2331477 - COEBR: Error EBR504 when archiving batch record with inspection lot of origin 04. I hope this note will address this issue.

Who says the inspection lot UD is only done after the batch record is validated and archived?  The inspection lot should just be one piece of the batch record which is the approval of the quality results.

I don't think SAP makes that rule.  In fact, from a business perspecitve and quality control perspective, I would want the system to block the archiving of a batch record until the inspection lot is completed.  I think the system is working exactly as it probably should.  What if a test result failed in the inspection lot?  An investigation would need to happen, the tests repeated, maybe the batch rejected, or even scrapped.
