How can I get a postive stock item to have a negative value in SAP B1

We have a customer that has waste items as a positive amount in stock, but these items cost them to dispose of, so therefore have a negative value.

Is there a way to cater for this in SAP B1, that is not via using a JE to reduce the value of the stock GL account, and actually relates to the item itself.

You cannot have an item with zero quantity and negative amount. However You can create a item with dispose name and valuation method standard cost. Create BOM of this item and make component item which needs to be disposed off. When you receipt this item old item's stock will be decreased and new item will built with new cost of disposal then at last step issue this item to any GL you want.
