Field to mark SSN as validated

Hello Experts,

I am wondering if there is a current standard SAP field in which to track the fact of whether or not an employee's Social Security Number (SSN) has been validated?

We currently do SSN validation as a part of our on-boarding process, and are processing our employee hires manually. There is a perception that SSNs are being mis-entered at the point of data entry by the data entry staff.

My initial thought is to utilize the SSN validation service provided by the Social Security Administration, and then mark a checkbox field on the employee record to track that this additional validation has occurred.

My wonder is if there is any SAP standard field to handle such a process.

Any insight would be appreciated.

Hi Scott,

Sorry it's taken so long for anyone to jump into this discussion! I don't know about a standard field, but what we do for this function is utilize infotype 0019 (Monitoring of Tasks, on the Tracking tab in PA20), and we have a custom Task Type ZT for "SSN Verification." The standard infotype fields allow for setting Date of Task, Processing Indicator (New, In Process, or Completed), and Reminder Dates and Comments on the task.

You could also use infotype 0028 (Checklist, on the Personal Data tab in PA20), with a custom Subtype for SSN Validation. I'm not sure why we didn't do it that way, but we do use this infotype to track finger printing, drug screening, and so forth, and it can again have a number of "Examination Results" that you configure (pass, fail, exempt, etc).

One last idea is infotype 0094 (Residence Status, also on Personal Data tab). Here you enter Employment Verification data, and one option for Work Permit is US Social Security Card. There's a field there for Case Verification Number, which might track to your SSA verification (I don't know about this for certain).
