Do service orders take into account common distribution channels and divisions?

We are using service orders in S4 public cloud.  When creating a service order for a non-stock good which is externally sourced, the expected action is it's supposed to trigger a purchase requisition.  However, it's getting an error saying that the material is not extended to the specified distribution channel.  It's worth noting, that the material is not specifically extended to the cited distribution channel, because we are using common distribution channels, so all materials should be extended to only one.  So this begs the question, can service orders work if you are maintaining common distribution channels?

Thanks

Hello,

In SAP S/4HANA Cloud, for service orders dealing with non-stock materials that are externally sourced, the system relies on the material master data being properly configured and extended to the relevant organizational levels. This typically includes sales organization, distribution channel, and plant.

When you encounter an issue with the material not being extended to the specified distribution channel, it could potentially point towards a misconfiguration in the material master or the organizational structure settings. Common distribution channels are designed to streamline the master data maintenance by allowing materials to be extended to multiple distribution channels without individual extensions. However, this setup needs to be properly configured in the system to function correctly.

For the common distribution channel to work effectively with service orders in S/4HANA Cloud, you can check the following:
1. **Material Master Configuration**: The material needs to be maintained correctly in the material master, with appropriate settings to ensure it covers the common distribution channel setup.
2. **Common Distribution Channel Setup**: Under Logistics General in Customizing, you need to set up the common distribution channel and assign it to sales organizations and distribution channels as needed.

3. **Check Organizational Data in Service Order**: Ensure that the service order has the correct organizational data, including the distribution channel that aligns with where the material is extended.
