Difference between IM ( Investment ) and PPM ( Project Portfolio Management )

Can anyone please throw some light on the differences between IM ( Investment ) and PPM ( Project Portfolio Management ) ?

IM has been around a long time and is still functional but it hasn't been upgraded in along time.  It is part og core ERP.

All new development has been around PPM which has much more robust portfolio and project management capabilities and a better user experience.  PPM was designed to be a standalone system as well as natively integrated to SAP.
