Data transfer to accounting-currency category

Hi Experts,

After a SAP upgrade in April 2012, a new mandatory field in the configuration appears and we are not sure which value should be chosen since we never user this field before.

Below is the IMG path:

SPRO -> Financial Supply Chain Management -> Treasury and Risk Management -> Transaction Manager -> General Settings -> Accounting -> Organization -> Assign Accounting Codes and Valuation Areas

After drill down in to any record, in the "Data transfer to accounting" session, there is a field with pull down list called "Crcy Cat.".

Please refer to the attached screen capture to find the values in the list.

In SAP F1 help, it says as below:

Currency Type and Valuation View

The currency type is a key describing a currency with regard to:

  • Its role within the R/3 System
  • The valuation method with which the amount arose, if you use functions for parallel valuation.

Use

The currency type is required to be able to transfer amounts between different components of the R/3 System such as Financial Accounting and Controlling (using interfaces).

This "Help" doesn't help much and I'm still confused.

Please advise on how I should decide the value for this field.

Many thanks!

Hi Sei

Go To Transaction OKKP and double click on your controlling area.  Under currency settings you have currency type. Whatever currency type you have selected there, you should provide the same in crcy category feild that you are referring.

Alternatively2:

If you are not maintaining controlling areas, you should be selecting the document currency, if you are using multiple currencies.  This will enable you to pay the Business partners in the transaction currencies.

Alternative 3:

If you want to pay only in company code currency and record in company code currency only, then you should chose company code currency.

Plz let me know if you need further info.

Thanks

Hi Mahesh,

Thank you for your reply.

I have confirmed OKKP and the currency type of our controlling area (we only have one) is 30 (Group currency).

I  went to SPRO -> Financial Supply Chain Management -> Treasury and Risk Management -> Transaction Manager -> General Settings -> Accounting -> Organization -> Assign Accounting Codes and Valuation Areas, and tried to select group currency but get an error saying "Currency category 30 is not supported.).

Alternatively2: -> we are maintaining controlling area.

Alternative 3: -> There are foreign currency transactions.

Please advise and kindly let me know what will be affected by this field and why it should be the same as the currency type of the controlling area. We must know the reason to decide if the selection is correct.

Thank you.

Hi,

Assign Accounting Codes and Valuation Areas means that you can create mumtiple valuation areas and assign to multiple accounting codes. This is helpful when you use parallel ledgers. Say for example, we have two ledgers one for IFRS and the other for USGAAP. In this case, in treasury module we can create two valuation areas catering to the two parallel ledgers.

Note : You must define the special / parallel ledgers before you make the assignment.

Secondly the currency should preferably be the company code currency.

Hi Akhill,

Thanks for your reply!

We do not use parallel ledgers and all we want to do is to fill up this field with a value that keep everything the same. If this is not changed to a mandatory field due to SAP upgrade, we wouldn't even bother to populate it.

Could you please advise which value we should choose so that it will not affect our current business model? Any value we can choose, and it functions the same as leaving it blank?

Many thanks!

Hi,

Probably you should assign company code currency as the valuation areas are assigned to the accounting principles which in turn is assigned to the ledger groups.
