We have three company codes & are having one leading ledger and two non leading ledgers. Apart from it. three fiscal years variant as well.

Our industry is sugar.

My doubt is, Do we need to create one controlling area or three controlling areas for each company code?

Please suggest.

Simply I'll tell you one thing.

You dont require three controlling areas as you leading ledger concept.

So, Fiscal year variant is same for all company codes in leading ledger.

So, all controlling postings will be done according to leading ledger and in one controlling area.

You can create one controlling area for the three company codes having different fiscal year variants..

Usually, as per rules company codes can be assigned to the same controlling area if they have the same chart of accounts and Fiscal year variant, but with Parallel ledger, you have the flexibility of designing a single controlling area with 3 company codes having different fiscal year variant.

Your design would be :-

All the company codes would have the same Fiscal Year variant in the Leading ledger and for local reporting the other two company codes can have their respective Fiscal Year variant in the Non leading ledger from where they would get all reporting for their legal requirements.

BUT, Please remember, all the 3 company codes should have the same Operating Chart of Accounts.
