Component/Spare part removed from the Truck and replace or install another new spare part

Dears,

I have a requirement and would like to know how it maps in PM/CS module:

A company buys various type of Vehicles and keep in their stock(i.e. Warehouse/Site). Now, a customer arrives to buy the vehicle/truck/car and subsequently requests the company to replace the tires, engine, gear box, suspension with other brands.

So basically, what the company would like to do here is to Remove the component from the Vehicle and bring that component back to it's stock, and subsequently issue the new component(spare part) to the Truck, which will be the replacement of the previous component removed.

For example: Customer says that "I want to replace the already ABC Tires which are already installed with new XYZ Tires, which means the ABC Tires will be removed and kept it stock, and XYZ tires will be taken from the stock and installed on the vehicle.

Please advise on the solution.

Regards,

Basil

Depends how deep you have modeled and represented the individual vehicle on the vendor side system.
Is the vehicle just a serialized instance of a given material on stock - or is it somehow deeply modeled as equipment with substructure. Are the tires with serial numbers modeled as equipments or are they just part of a BOM.....

Assuming you have a deep modeling an representation of the vehicle with a top level equipment representing the individual equipment with sub-equipments like engine, gearbox etc installed under this equipment you might e.g. deal with the use case of changing the engine against another by dismanteling the old one out of it, put it on stock, take another engine from stock and put it in. This would be activities in IE02 or IE4N. Assuming you might not have modeld the 4 wheels/tires as individual equipments, you could not dismantle/replace them via EA transactions, of course. Nevertheless you could cover the work done by corresponding work order...

To simplify more, consider the below steps for 2 different Equipment and how the Spare parts such as Engine is removed from one Equipment and installed to another Equipment :-

1st Work order (Removing the spare part from the equipment)

1 - Work Order Number ABC gets opened in the system via IW31
2 - Enter the Main Equipment Number (Vehicle 1) - This equipment has a cost as well
3 - On the component tab, enter the spare part let's say (Engine A) with movement type 262 which is our reversal (which means Engine is back into the stock). After reversal, Engine cost gets updated as well on the work order.

2nd Work Order (Installing/Adding the spare part to the equipment which the customer wants)

1 - Work order Number XYZ gets opened in the system via IW31
2 - Enter the Equipment( Vehicle 2) - This equipment has a cost as well
3 - On the component tab, enter the spare part let's say (Engine A) with movement type 261 which is issuance from stock (which means Engine issued to the work order). After issuance, engine cost gets updated as well on the work order. This issuance was done after we removed the Engine A from the 1st work order.

Cost Impact:-

Equipment cost 400
GR Reversal cost(Coming from 1st Work order) -200
GI Issuance cost(Coming from 2nd Work order) 100

Total cost = 300 to be recorded

Kindly advise on the above, if this is the right way to do or we can do all this in a single work order or any other way. Also advise how do we record Equipment cost(400). I know that planned and actual cost gets updated in the work order but that is for components/spare parts.

Hello Manfred,

Thanks for the response. Please find my response to your questions:

1 - Vehicle is a serialized instance which means we have a equipment-serial-material number combination and it's not a BOM structure(We don't have Top Level and Sub Level equipment structure). Each Material/Component have a serial number assigned to it.

2 - Yes we have not modeled each wheel/tire as an individual equipment but they are represented as separate Components/Material.

3 - Note: We are using Customer Service Module.
