common master data

Hi Gurus,

I am new to SD.

I heard about using common master data to ease master data maintenance.

Please let me know more about how to configure or customise for this.

I just need to know the broad steps. More details would be a bonus.

I guess you are talking about common dist. channel and division. You can create a common Dist. Channel and common division and assign all other dist. channels and divisions to them. So if you maintain Customer/Material master data in this common entities, you need not define for all dist. ch. and division.

The path is - IMG -> Sales and distribution -> Master data -> Define common distribution channels.

IMG -> Sales and distribution -> Master data -> Define common divisions.
