Adding to Murali's answer,

Characteristic & value fields form basis for CO-PA (Profitability analysis)

Characteristics - Defines in what dimension the report is to be prepared. E.g. sales in a business area. Here, business area is the char

value fields - Holds the actual values for analysis.

U can create ur own Char and Value field

Hi,

Are you referring to Characterstics from the Controllin - Profitability Analysis (Costing based).

We can create Characterstics in Operating as per the Business requirement. SAP has provided 50 characterstics. We can add further as per the requirement. However, we should not add too many as it will bloat the data base.
