Best Practice additional scope id activation

We have activated BP Z_US_SOLUTION. Now we have a requirement to activate additional scope item in this solution.

About this scenario, SAP note 2938086 states the following:

"At a later point of time, if you need more scope items to be activated, you can change the Z_CUST solution and add the scope items you need, then activate them in Implementation Assistant.”

Question:

  • Can we just edit the solution activated and further activate the scope item needed? If so can we transport the activation of scope item from BP client to business client?

The scope of "Z_US_SOLUTION" can be extended and the solution re-activated under the following prerequisites:

  • The system is still on the same release/PFS as when the first content activation was done.
  • The customizing of the client has not been manually changed.
  • No transactional data has been posted in the client.

So basically, the client/system must be in the state where the last activation ended. Otherwise the changes can lead to activation errors for the added scope or manual customer configuration might be overwritten.

If above conditions are not met in the original activation client, a scope extension in the client is not supported anymore.

What it can also be done as a workaround (with quite some effort) in this case is to create a new client in the system, where he first activates the old scope again then closes the activation transport, then does the scope extension there recording changes in a new transport and move this new transport to the business client.
