Batch managed and SLED materials

Hi Gurus,

How the batch managed and SLED functionality are related?

I see that even if batch management is not active we can have SLED control by providing data at plant data/ stor1.

SLED can be used as an characteristic for batch managed materials.

But, Batch managed materials need not have an SLED or an material with SLED need not be necessarily batch managed.

Hi Subramanian,

Thanks for the speedy reply.

Can u clarify another thing? Can we, by any chance, change the Batch managed indicator while stock exists?

What does the SNOTE 30656 stands for?

Thanks in advance.

no you cannot change the batch management indicator while you have stock in current or in previous period.

OSS note 30656 explains what you have to do set this indicator or to remove this indicator.

Stocks should be zero for changing the batch management indicator or the UOM. I think the note clearly explains the same. It is showing that if the stock overview shows stock as zero and yet if you get an error for changing the indicator then how to handle the situation.

Do we need to even consider the Open orders for the same?

Any Open SO/PO/ Prodn order need to be reversed to change the indicator?

have you ever said whether you want active or deactivate a batch managent indicator?

Setting one is much easier than removing.

for setting you only need to take care about stocks, for removing you have to archive transactional data first, e.g. SO, PO, Production order.
