When I enter a value in the Basic Pay Infotype for the amount it is entered there as Annual Salary, but when I run the payroll for that period the system shows the amount as monthly amount. So what I need to know is that how does the system identify that the amount that is maintained in the Infotype 0008 is an Annual Salary?

Then what you need to do is to go to Personnel Management - Personnel Administration - Payroll Data - Basic Pay - Define EE Subgroup Grouping for PCR and Coll.Agrmt.Prov. - the field ESG for PCR is used to determine if the employee is paid on a daily or a monthly basis (the frequency of payment).. read the documentation for the field (F1) and check the suitable entry per each employee subgroup.
Under Personal Administration -> Payroll Data -> Basic Pay -> Define anual salary in SPRO you can find all activities bound to Anual Salary field (ANSAL).
Payment frequency for annual salary is configured in feature PFREQ.
