The SAP Warehouse Management system (WMS) provides flexible, automated support
in processing all goods movements and in managing stocks in your warehouse complex.
The system supports scheduled and efficient processing of all logistics processes
within your warehouse.
Normally, R/3 Warehouse Management administers the whole of your warehouse.
Warehouse Management can be seen as a supplement to Inventory Management;
that is, goods movements documented in Inventory Management are also
documented in Warehouse Management.
Warehouse numbers are assigned to storage locations.
These in turn are divided into storage types and storage bins.
The following levels are therefore relevant for physical inventory:
A warehouse number is always assigned to a site and to a storage location.
The storage location provides the link between the Warehouse Management and
Inventory Management structures.
These include high rack storage area or block storage area
The storage bin indicates the exact location of an article (via coordinates, for example)
A physical inventory item is the stock of an article contained in a storage bin (the quant).
