Account assignement in PO

Hi guys,i tried to create a purchase order and it did not work when i entered the account assignement column.I left it blank and then the PO got created.Please suggest the relevance of account assignement field in a PO

Hello,

In PROCUREMENT we have two types of material procurements.

One is Procurement of STOCK MATERIAL

The other is Procurement of CONSUMPTION MATERIAL

For Stock material there is no ACCOUNT ASSIGNMENT is required as there will be direct post of material into the INVENTORY and change in the material , Inventory stock

For Consumption material , ACCOUNT ASSIGNMENT Category is required as it is used for DIRECT CONSUMPTION and no change in the Inventory .

We will obtain those Consumption Materials and post them for Sales orders, Cost centre ...

functionally account assignment decedes aboube the consumption account to which the cost of purchase to get posted.technically it has got controlling functions like additional fields to the me21n screen like account assignment tab.account assignment can be a cost center, asset, order etc.
