Use Case:

Jack is an Analytics Specialist at ABC company. He is preparing his upcoming customer engagement and needs to create queries and reports using available CDS views. He needs to find which SAP views are already available that he can use as a basis to start his development. Now he is checking views related to Finance in View Browser.


  • Jack scrolls down and select the business catalog “Query Design”. (1)

  • Then he clicks the View Browser tile to start the View Browser app.  (2)

Step 2:

  • The View Browser app shows this screen where Jack finds information on the view  categories such as Basic, Composite, Consumption, Extension, and Undefined.(1)

  • Jack would like to easily search the view C_GLLineItemQ0001. To do so, he has to adjust his search criteria and click the View Settings icon(2)

  • Basic Views: Views that form core data basis without data redundancies

  • Composite Views: Views that provide data derived and/or composed from the Basic Views

  • Consumption Views: Views that serve for specific application purposes and may be defined based upon public interface (e.g. Basic and Composite Views)

  • Extension Views: Views that customer can enhance with additional fields

Step 3:

  • In the “View Settings”, Jack clicks on the tab “Filter”  which displays settings fields where Jack assigns FI to Application Component. Jack filters additionally for the released views by Release Status and equals to 1

Step 4:

  • Now Jack goes to the tab “Sort”(3) where he defines another setting allowing to sort the returned entries. To do so, he sets the “Release Status” to “Descending”.(4)

  • Then Jacks clicks OK to validate his settings and trigger the search. (5)

Step 5:

  • The search results are displayed as shown here(1)

Step 6:

  • As Jack is searching for the consumption view C_GLLineItemsQ0001, he clicks the category “Consumption” (1) to display the consumption views in the table .(2)

  • Furthermore, to have the details on the view C_GLLineItemsQ0001 displayed, Jacks, double clicks on the selected(2) row to open the “View Details” window.

Step 7:

  • In the “View Details” window, Jack has the choice between several tabs (Definition, Annotation, Cross Reference) on which he can view details of the considered view for analysis purposes. For example, on the tab “Definition”(1) , Jack can see the available fields as well as their data elements, descriptions, data types, and lengths .(2)

Step 8:

  • On the tab “Cross Reference”(3) , Jack, can easily see that the cross reference to the related view is I_GLAccountLineItemCube (4)

  • Now, Jack would like to see the content of the view C_GLLineItemsQ0001. To do so, he must click on “Show Content”(5)  which will open  Design Studio.

Step 9:

  • In Design Studio, Jack is prompted to define parameters for some selected fields. Jack maintains these fields as follows:

    • Ledger with: 0L (1)

    • Company Code with: 1010 (2)

    • Ledger Fiscal Year with: 2016 (3)

  • Afterwards, Jack has to click OK to validate his entries and  having the content of the view displayed.(4)

Step 10:

  • Jack’s result set looks like this.(1)

  • As the focus of the analysis is set on profit center, Jack would like to have the “Profit Center” field in the filter bar to facilitate its manipulation for analysis purposes.

Step 11:

  • Now Jack is prompted to provide entries. Jack enters “Prof” in the search field to speed up the selection(1) . In the below table, he checks the fields labeled with Profit Center(2). , then clicks OK to validate the entries. The field “Profit Center” should appear as section filed in the filter bar.

Step 12:

  • The filed “Profit Center” is now available as selection field in the filter bar(1)

Step 13:

  • Now, Jack wants to add “Profit Center” to the result set.

  • To do so, from the column “Dimensions” which contains all available fields, Jack has to search for “Profit Center”(1)  and drags it to the column “Rows”(2)

Step 14:

  • After dropping the field “Profit Center” to the column “Rows”(1) ,Jack’s result set looks like this.(2)

Step 15:

  • As only the “Profit Center” as such seems not to be enough for Jack’s analysis, he wants to add the attribute “Profit Center Responsible” of the “Profit Center” dimension to his result set.

  • To do so, Jack has to right click the column “Profit Center”(1)  then select “Attributes”(2)  and double click “Person Resp. for PC”(3)  to have this attribute in his result set.

Step 16:

  • Jack’s result set looks like this(1)  with the attribute “Person Resp. for PC” in its own column.

Step 17:

  • Jack wants now to filter the displayed result for a Profit Center. The displayed list must only show details for Profit Center with the value “A000/YB101”

  • To do so, Jack has to enter in the Profit Center selection fields “A000/YB101”(1) , then click GO.(2)

Step 18:

  • In the result table(1) , Jack can now see only details related to “Profit Center” “A000/YB101”. (2)

Step 19:

  • Jack can also have a graphical holistic view of his result including all available “Profit Center” values.

  • To do so, Jack has to use a result set without exclusion of any “Profit Center”(1)  and click the chart icon(2)  After the steps (1) and (2), the expected graphic with its legend are displayed(3)  in the result set as well.

Step 20:

  • Jack would like to reuse his actual setting frequently and therefore needs to save it as a variant.

  • To do so, Jack has to click the arrow in the top left corner (1). He is then prompted to enter parameters for the variant.

  • In the “Variants” window, Jack has to click the “Save As” button(2) to save his settings as a variant and maintain the following fields:

    • Name with: “Profit Center per Period”(1)

    • Check “Set as Default” (2)

    • Check “Share”(3)

    • Afterwards Jack has to click the OK button to validate the entries and create the variant.(4)

Step 21:

  • To make his report available and executable on the Fiori Launchpad, Jack must save it as a tile.

  • To do so, Jack has to go to the bottom of the page , click the corresponding button(1) , and click the button “Save as Tile”.(2)

Step 22:

  • On the “Save Tile” window Jack must maintain the fields as follows:

    • Title with “Profit Center Report”(1)

    • Group with “My Home” (2)

  • When done with the fields maintenance, Jack should click on the OK button   to validate his entries(3)

  • Afterwards he must click on the icon “Home”(4) to save the App.

Step 23:

  • A tile labeled “Profit Center Report” as maintained above is now in Jack’s Business Catalog “My Home”(1)  visible (2)and executable.

Step 24:

  • To view his report with the saved settings again, Jacks clicks  the newly created tile labeled “Profit Center Report”(2) . The following screen is displayed.
