The content of this blog is about the old version of Release Assessment and Scope Dependency Tool and, hence outdated.
Please refer to this blog to know about the latest version.

With this blog post, you will learn about the new functionality that has been released with the 1908 version of the SAP S/4HANA Cloud Release Assessment and Scope Dependency Tool (RASD). The tool was launched for with the 1905 release.

When we conceptualized the RASD tool, our idea was to create a personalized, self learning tool for customers, that enables ease of consumption and adoption of quarterly innovations in SAP S/4HANA Cloud. There as been a healthy adoption of the tool over the past two upgrade cycles as well and new functionality is being added as well.

Below you will find a summary of what are the new features we have added to the tool with the 1908 release

New Features and Functionality :

HOME Section

The “Home” page launches with the Customer Details for the customer who has logged into the system. From 1908 versions you would be able to select the countries and tenants for which the analysis needs to be done.

In case you do not have "customer specific" access based on your profile, you would be logged into the tool with "Generic Access" and see the overall 1908 scope for SAP S/4HANA Cloud

The cards on the top of the page reflect the following:

  • Total Activated Scope for the customer- This is across all the countries that the customer has activated scope items in. In case of Generic Access, this is a sum of all scope items across all countries

  • Unique Scope items – This is the set of unique scope items in the customer landscape.

  • Changed Scope Items – These are scope items that have changed within the customers system with the current release, across all countries

  • Unchanged Scope Items – These are scope items that have remained unchanged with the current release, across all countries.

  • New Scope Items – These are new scope items that are available with the current release.

The stacked bar chart provides a view from a Line of Business perspective, showing the changed, unchanged and new scope items for each line of business.

Our users will also be able to use the the toggle between “ Activated scope “ and “ overall scope”  to choose if the analysis should be based on “ activated scope” of the customer  or  “ overall scope”. In case of users with generic access this option will not be available.

You would be able to select the current version or the previous version from the dropdown on the top right corner of the tool. The Toggle button allows you to toggle between the customer’s scope and the overall release scope in the customer variant.

The Doughnut shows the different types of changes with the current release  that is specific to the customer . The Change Types that the tool uses for categorization are.

  1. API Changes – These are changes to APIs (Application Programming Interfaces )

  2. CDS Changes – These are changes to CDS views

  3. SSCUI Changes – These are changes to the Configuration Settings, i.e to Self Service Configuration User Interfaces.

  4. Authorization Changes – These are changes to Identity and Access Management objects due to which there is a change in roles and catalogs. Details of the Authorization Changes can be viewed and downloaded from the “ACT” Section

  5. Deprecated – These are changes related to deprecated functionality

  6. Functionality – These are functional changes to scope items, where new features or functionality have been added

The Bar chart and the Doughnut Chart are both clickable and clicking on the any part of the bar chart takes you into more details about the selection. Eg: Clicking on Blue for Finance will take you the “ANALYZE” section and you will see all the activated scope items for Finance which are changed. Similarly, clicking on any segment of the doughnut will take you to a view by Change Categories.

ANALYZE

If you wanted to analyze the changes with the release, there are multiple ways of doing so. The Analyze section allows you to analyze changes based on LoB, on a specific scope item or at a change category level

Analyze by LoB

The tool transitions to this section from the Bar Chart, or you can click on this from the side panel as well. This section provides details of how different scope items impact one another. There are filters which allow you to select

  1. Country

  2. Tenant

  3. Line of Business (LoB)

  4. New / Changed Scope items

You would be able to search specific scope items directly and the tool provides information to them about different characteristics of the scope item, there is a scope item specific directed graph that provides all the dependencies that the selected scope item has with the other scope items.

Once inputs have been provided, the directed dependency graph shows you how different scope items within that Lines of Business interact with each other. A right-hand side panel comes up on clicking on a specific scope item and you can check the changes for that scope item.

Click on any scope item in the directed bar graph to open up a right hand side panel and see more details about the scope item from the “What’s New” document of the current release. The Change categories relevant to the scope item are given as buttons to toggle between changes for that release as well as to see more information specific to a change

Analyze by scope item

You can analyze 1908 changes by Scope item as well. The screen shot below shows the information captured at the scope level. There is a radar chart for easier understanding of how the changes are skewed for a scope item towards the various changes.

The "Country Localization" field tells you how many countries the customer has activated a particular scope item in. On clicking on the small "i" icon, you can see the details of localization information

Analyze by Change category

The section provides information on changes to scope item by category of change.  The tool also provides a “heat map” of changes by change category for easy visualization.

ACT:

We have provided some insights and recommendations on the Testing and Activation based on what has been activated in a customers scope and in case you do not have access to the customer access, then the recommendations are at 1908 release level. The Section on “Act” provides recommendations based on a Customer’s Activated Scope and Dependencies between Scope Items.  The tool plots the above information in the form of a bubble chart for easy visualization.

For Generic Access – The recommendations can be interpreted to be based on overall SAP S/4HANA Scope, i.e. what is the updates for total scope for the release

The intelligence built into the tool provides the top three scope items that should be tested based on Degree of how much the scope item has changed, or how much change in a scope item impacts other L1 level scope items that have a dependency on it.

The recommendation on “Activate” are based on dependencies too, on what can be potentially activated based on currently activated scope and dependencies.

What's New in RASD with the 2002 release?

The following new information will be available.
