PLM Info Day in China was held in Shanghai on July 18th, 2018. This annual event aims to helping our customers and partners understand our new PLM capabilities and strategies, in order to make successful digital transformations for manufacturing enterprises.

There were 70+ customers registered this event, and 50+ audience attended, including some of leading manufacturing companies, such as Heli, Foxconn, China Tobacco Machinery, CRRC, GE, and SAIC-GM. Instead of SAP doing our own topic introduction of PLM in previous events, we invited some customers and partners to share the new best practice of industries and share experience from actual implementation. This not only successfully captured participants attentions, we also got chance to know what customers’ challenges.

Here are the topics that were covered in this session:

Requirement driven product development is now becoming common understanding of product development and important part of the digital transformation for manufacturing industries. “Product must ingratiate with customer requirement, in order to be able to be sold”, said by CIO of Heli, Zhang Mengqing.

In addition, how do manufacturers manage and utilize the information provided during product development, manufacturing and selling? This is also the most difficult challenges for top management risen by audience. Jianqin Jin, Vice President of China Tobacco Machinery mentioned that lots of development problems are integration problems, instead technical problems.

Of course, customers raised a lot of challenges to us. For example, IT manager from SAIC-GM mentioned that the best practice also need to match local customer needs.

With support of Chinese government's new plan “Made in China 2025”, Chinese manufacturing is now pushed to become more intelligent and highly integrated. For SAP, this would be a great chance to make our “intelligent product” and “intelligent enterprise” concept into real practice.
