This is a Web Dynpro Grid in customer system for embedded analytics. With embedded Analytics feature, with custom CDS and Queries, the report customer needs for their business can be easily created on S/4HANA Cloud as a Tile embedded in the system seamlessly. In this blog, the successful PoC of Embedded Report on Period Goods Movement Analysis will be shared to you to show its powerful functions and to introduce the key steps to implement it in detail.

What’s customer’s request?

In each region/country, working custom is different. For example, in Greater China region, customers are accustomed to using inbound/outbound storage to reconcile material movements during the period. Depending on the customer’s business scenario, the customer needs to query the quantities and amounts of the materials at the beginning of the period, at the end of the period, in the inbound, and the outgoing stock, and to manage material movement data during the analysis period. Custom will compare the start and end Quantities, Values in each period. Customer’s specific requirements are as follows:


Material Number Plant Period Start Qty Period Start Amt. Inbound Qty Inbound Amt. Outbound Qty. Outbound Amt. Period End Qty. Period End Amt.

When the data source is confirmed, it is quite easy and fast to create a custom grid report.


How to solve the problem?

There are four main steps to implement Embedded SAC: creating Custom CDS View, creating Custom Analytical Query, creating Story and creating an Application. The specific steps will be described in detail below. To protect customer sensitive data, some of the screenshots come from dummy test system.

1 Creating Custom CDS Views

One CDS view needs to be created to create Period Goods Movement Analysis. Its primary data source is I_Materialledgercube_Lit (Line Items for Material Ledger - Cube) with associated data source I_Product (Product). Maintain association conditions, add required elements and calculations, and maintain element properties and filter conditions. Publish the CDS view after configuration is complete.


2 Creating Custom Analytical Queries

Find the Custom Analytical Queries app from menu Query Design and create a new custom query. Select the CDS View you just created as the data source. Add the fields and measures and filters according to your requirements. When all the configuration is done, you can have a query preview, as shown in the following figure:

Then save and publish the query.

3 Creating Story (or directly create a tile as a Web Dynpro Grid)

The Create Story page allows customers to define SAP Analytic Cloud story for a selected data source. Customers can create different visualizations to the data source. Multiple data sources can be added to the story and users can design interactive dashboards, create new pages, and add visualization such as charts, tables, and other graphics to visualize the data. The items on the page such as chart are arranged as tiles that can be moved around, resized, and styled to your liking.

Customers can create new stories that show some of the required key figures and icons showing detailed information based on their business needs.

4 Creating an Application

Customers can publish the relevant stories or queries as apps according to their business needs.


In this blog, we show how to create a custom report via S/4HANA Cloud and embed it in S/4HANA Cloud Fiori Launchpad. The Period Goods Movement Analysis can provide all the information the customer required, which fully meets their business needs. In addition, SAP now deliver standard content in the latest release to meet similar needs.
