In this blog I wish to share my knowledge of RISE with SAP based on the details that are open to public. This blog is intended for those who have a basic understanding of RISE with SAP and want to understand more details based on the general information available to all. This blog can also be used as a base to understand a BOM that has been created for a customer.
NOTE: This blog does not cover in-depth details on RISE as it is only available for RISE
with SAP partners via the Learning hub portal. This blog is more targetted at the details
that SAP has made available to public.

=============================================================

A. RISE with SAP SDG (Service Description Guide):

This is one of the basic important documents that SAP has released for general public usage.
Link: https://www.sap.com/about/trust-center/agreements/cloud/cloud-services.html?sort=latest_desc&tag=agr...

Choose => "RISE with SAP S/4HANA Cloud , private edition Service Description Guide("SDG")from the list

Key takeaways from this document:

1. SLA:

As per the point 2.5, RISE with SAP can provide an application SLA ( inclusive of infrastructure, Network, application etc) of 99.9% if the customer subscribes to this SLA specifically. Else SAP provides an application SLA of 99.7% for production and 99.5% for non-production.

https://news.sap.com/2021/08/raising-cloud-availability/

2. Disaster Recovery and GxP Eligibility

As per point 2.6 disaster recovery service is not part of a standard subscription and customers who need one must explicitly add this SKU to their BOM

3.FUE ( Refer to SECTION 5 in the document: RISE WITH SAP S/4HANA CLOUD, PRIVATE EDITION, TAILORED OPTION (FORMERLY, “SAP S/4HANA FOR ENTERPRISE MANAGEMENT, PRIVATE EDITION, TAILORED OPTION”)

FUE is Full User Equivalent. This is the way for calculating user licenses that are required for any customer and is based on existing on-premise licenses that the customer currently holds.

1 FUE = 0.50 SAP S/4HANA Cloud, Developer Access
1 FUE = 1 SAP S/4HANA Cloud for advanced edition use
1 FUE = 5 SAP S/4HANA Cloud for core use
1 FUE = 30 SAP S/4HANA Cloud for self-service use

Eg: If the customer holds 5 developer on-premise licenses, it gets converted into a requirement of 10 FUE. If the customer holds 10 core users , it gets translated into 2 FUE .

The video from SAP throws a detailed explanation of the same.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IJxoWy6w4Qo

4. T-SHIRT SIZE Mapping (Section 5.6)

Based on the total FUE that are required per customer, it gets translated into the below T-Shirt sizes

If FUE for a customer is about 130FUE, they can be tagged to t-shirt size XXS or higher based on the projected usage.  In case of t-shirt size XXS, the customer will get a 2-system landscape which has a DEV and PRD box of up to 256GB RAM .They will also get 1 application server(PAS) for DEV and another one (PAS)for PRD ( Total, 2 application servers as per the table above ).

For a customer with FUE of about 6001, XXL t-shirt size will be allocated which will provide a 3-system landscape of DEV, QA, and PRD. Their HANA DEV box can be of size up to 512GB. QA and PRD HANA DB RAM can be of size up to 6144GB. Also, about 10 application servers will be allocated to the customer and it is up to the customer as of how many APPs they allocated to each environment. eg, the customer may assign 2 application servers to DEV, 4 application servers to QA, and about 4 application servers to production

One can derive from this table that, the starting size for PCE (SAP S/4HANA Cloud, private edition) is 256 GB. ,

NOTE:Any customer with too low FUE can opt for SaaS product =>SAP S/4HANA, public cloud under RISE than the private edition which will be cost-effective.

5.App server sizes Tables.

As per this SDG, as on date below is the application server table . As per this. a customer who has subscribed for t-shirt size XXS will be provided with 64GB RAM PAS PRD server and 32GB RAM DEV PAS server. In case of a XXL, the SAP application instance of PRD and QA can be up to 128 GB RAM servers. In the case of the DEV box, its size can be 64GB RAM Server

NOTE: From Points 5 and 6 above , one can derive that SAP by default provides with
PAS+DB setup where HANA DB will be running on a dedicated server and PAS will be running on a dedicated server

6.RISE with S/4HANA Cloud, private edition includes:(section 5.8.1)

As per section 5.8.1 below, when a customer subscribes to RISE with SAP , private edition, they get a,b,c,d points as specified below as a part of the default subscription. For e and f points customer must obtain a subscription to the associated SAP Cloud Services.

7.SAP S/4HANA CLOUD, ADDITIONAL PRODUCTIVE TIER, PRIVATE EDITION

For customers who need an extra production tier on top of the standard production tier that comes as a part of the t-shirt size that the customer has subscribed to, the customer can buy extra t-shirt sizes for the same.

Note: Similar line item is also available for customers who need additional non-production systems on top of standard DEV and QA. Such customers must subscribe to additional SKUs.

8.  SAP LONG TERM BACKUP, PRIVATE EDITION

The below table from SDG specifies the backup size that customers can subscribe in blocks of 256 GBs. ie, If a customer subscribes to 3 blocks of this line item, they will be able to store the backup size of up to  256*3=768GB. The frequency until which it must be retained will also affect the number of blocks that the customer can subscribe to

9. SAP CLOUD, MEMORY EXTENSION

If the customer needs more HANA DB memory than the standard RAM that comes as a part of subscribed t-shirt size, the customer can subscribe to additional memory in units of 256GB.Below 2 line items in the screenshots are distinct line items for production and non-production systems.

Eg, if a customer needs 512GB additional RAM for production, then they must subscribe for 2 bocks of the line item "SAP CLOUD,MEMORY EXTENSION FOR PRODUCTIVE TIERS,PRIVATE EDITION"

10.SAP ADDITIONAL STORAGE FOR ENTERPRISE MANAGEMENT CLOUD, PRIVATE EDITION

If a customer needs more storage than the storage allocated by SAP to the subscribed S/4HANA, the customer can then subscribe to additional storage in blocks of 100GB.

Eg: If a customer needs 500GB of extra storage, then they can subscribe to 5 units of this line item to attain 500GB

11.SAP S/4HANA CLOUD, ADDITIONAL (NON -PRD) TIER, PRIVATE EDITION

This line item is for customers who are looking for more than 3 system environments. Ie, If a customer needs an additional non-production system called pre-production on top of DEV,QA and PRD, the customer must subscribe to the required t-shirt size for an additional non-production environment.

NOTE:As a part of the standard subscription, SAP provided 3 system landscapes for all the t-shirt sizes except for XXS which only has DEV and PRD environment.

12. SAP SOLUTION MANAGER,PRIVATE EDITION, FULL VERSION

If a customer also need a full version of SOLMAN in RISE, they can subscribe to this line item. with this line item, the customer will get 2 SOLMAN system (One PRD and One DEV with database as HANA)
