I am a certified professional in S/4HANA on premise and cloud version. I have done various SAP projects and deep dived into S/4HANA financials, with expertise in AR, AP, Banking, Asset, COPA, material ledger etc. In recent years, S/4HANA has brought the digital disruption in a positive way and is the next generation intelligent ERP. I am writing this article to share my thoughts over newer concepts in S/4HANA area.
Have you heard of overview pages in S/4HANA which provides “Street-Level” view in comparison to the “Birds-eye” view level fiori tiles? So what is have in store and how it is progressing in Finance area in S/4HANA embedded analytics?
Let’s glide couple of thousand feet lower in Overview Pages (OVP) concept and availability in Finance LoB.
Overview pages are special types of analytical fiori applications which provides an intuitive floorplan to the user for most relevant and important activities according to user’s role assignment. Each activity is represented in the form of card on the OVP floorplan, and can have different types of visualization (like texts, charts, lists, tables) in super-intuitive fashion.
It allows user to consume the information from two or more applications quickly without need to switch between different screens and then react to the information by taking appropriate micro actions. User can also directly bookmark the overview page to have direct access and avoid the need to first open SAP Fiori Launchpad to open overview page app.
We have seen overview pages in logistics area even in S/4HANA EM 1610 version also. E.g. “Procurement Overview Page” (Fiori id F1990) showing purchasing contracts, spending trend, supplier performance monitor etc. as below:
Similarly, we have other OVP in logistics like “My Sales Overview” (Fiori ID F2200), "Overview Inventory Management" (Fiori ID F2769) etc. But in Finance area, there were not much OVP pages introduced.
But the trend seems to be changing!
SAP has introduced “Foreign Exchange Overview” (Fiori ID F2331) OVP in TRM application from S/4HANA EM On-Premise version 1709 initial stack (FPS00). And moreover in S/4HANA cloud SAP has introduced many overview pages in Finance line of business recently as listed below:
Take a look at below floorplan in “Foreign Exchange Overview” application showing liquidity forecast, exchange rates, cash position etc.:
Tip: A user can have multiple overview pages assigned. So do not try to bring everything applicable to the user on same overview page, rather only related and co-operative tasks should be arranged in floorplan for overview page.
Overview pages are quite interesting and easing the work of the end user giving various connected relevant information at same place with super-intuitive interface. Customers/ partners can also design their own specific overview pages for specific roles in the business operations. While designing and defining the OVP pages, also keep in mind the best practices explained in Fiori Design Guidelines from SAP.
