Objective:
Logistic Batch Management is very extensive tool available in SAP to map many different types of requirements. The objective of this blog to provide possible information on LO Batch Management in the blog. There are other components available under batch management as mentioned below with relevant blogs and help documentation which can be find by clicking on link. This blog will be only focused on batch classification/ attributes that
how automatically updated in standard system without technical team engagement.
There are two possible ways to automatic update batch classification using Quality Management (
Link) or using Object Dependency. In this blog, we will see how to update automatic batch classification using object dependency.
Note: Information used in blog is sample information and image used in the blog are from demo systems for interactive knowledge sharing and any resemblance to real data is purely coincidental.
Following of component are available under Logistic Batch Management
- Batch Classification
- Batch Determination in PP, SD, MM - Link
- Original Batch - Link
- Batch Usage (Top-Down and Bottom-Up) - Link
- Batch Derivation - Link
- Batch Specific Unit of measure and Quantities - Link
- Material Quantity Calculation and Active Ingredients - Link
1. Calculation in Batch Classification Using Object Dependencies
1.1. Business Requirement
We have few attributes having numeric value like width and length and we need to calculate and update area based on length and width characteristic value. This can be managed in standard by follow below procedure.
1.1.1.Create Characteristics
Create characteristics as below using transaction code CT04
Characteristic |
Description |
Value |
Method to Update |
ZLN |
Length |
750 mm |
Manual |
ZWD |
Width |
120 mm |
Manual |
YAR |
Area |
90000 mm2 or 0.09 m2 |
Automatic depend on formula |
1.1.2.Create Object Dependency
Create procedure object dependency as below using transaction code CU01
1.1.3.Assign Object dependency
Assign object dependency with each characteristic ZLN, ZWD and ZAR using transaction code CT04
1.1.4.Create Batch Class
Create batch class using transaction code CL02 and assigned characteristics with class
1.1.5.Assign class with Material
Create material using MM01 and assign batch class with material and make sure batch indicator must be activated for this material.
1.1.6.Create Goods Receipt
Create goods receipt against purchase/ production order using MIGO and update length and width value in batch classification and you will observe value of area is calculating automatically.
2. Update value in Batch classification based on other Characteristic Value
2.1. Business Requirement
As an example, there are different characteristic values of characteristics like (YGN, YLG, YLW ect.) and these values auto updated by Quality management on Result recording in batch classification or may manually updated in batch classification. Inventory responsible needs self-defined description of these dependent characteristic value (YGN, YLG, YLW ect.). This can be mange by follow below procedure in standard.
- “Green color is identify in RR” instead YGN
- “'Light Green color found in RR” instead YLG
- “Yellow color is identify in RR” instead YLW
Note: As maximum length of characteristic value 30 so desire value can be maintained up to 30 digit.
2.1.1.Create Characteristics
Create characteristics as below using transaction code CT04, here you can mark YCNCL no display and not ready for input as per requirement.
Characteristic |
Description |
Value |
Method to Update |
YCNCL |
Color (Original Characteristic) |
YGN |
Manual |
YCNCLD |
Color Description |
Green |
Automatic |
2.1.2.Create Object Dependency
Create procedure object dependency as below using transaction code CU01
2.1.3.Assign Object dependency
Assign object dependency with each characteristic YCNCL and YCNCLD using transaction code CT04
2.1.4.Create Batch Class
Create batch class using transaction code CL02 and assigned characteristics with class and review assignment
2.1.5.Assign class with Material
Create material using MM01 and assign batch class with material and make sure batch indicator must be activated for this material.
2.1.6.Run procure to pay complete cycle with In-coming Quality Inspection
Create purchase order and then post goods receipt and after post goods receipt, make result recording and usage decision.
2.1.7.Review batch classification
After usage decision, you may review batch classification
Conclusion:
Most of project team members think that object dependency can be only used in variant configuration but object dependency procedure can be also used in batch classification to extend batch classification functionality.
