At the beginning of September 8 – 9,2020, we ran a virtual SAP MaxAttention Innovation Workshop about how Business Process Improvement can support during challenging times – one of the first kinds of this format and topic, specifically for our Premium Engagement customers in the Asia Pacific region. Participants with heterogenous backgrounds and industries from ANZ, SEA, India, and Korea joint us for the workshop to learn more about how business process improvement can support them in realizing the full value of their SAP solutions.
After Linda Loeffler from Customer Engagement Support warmly welcomed our customers and walked them through the agenda for the virtual two half-day workshop, Eric Ma from the China Center of Expertise (CoE) for Business Process Improvement gave and introduction and first overview into the topic. He explained the areas where business process improvement can support – improving overarching business and value drivers, reducing the total cost of ownership (TCO) and the complexity within SAP solutions, as well as supporting the digital transformation to SAP S/4HANA.
After gaining a first understanding of the reasons for potential inefficiencies or ineffectiveness, such as incorrect master data, low automation rates or untrained end users, Harshad Mishrikotkar from the India CoE Financial Accounting / Human Capital Management dived deeper into how to improve working capital and cash flow. It is crucial for all enterprises to manage their working capital and safeguard their liquidity and cash flow, especially in challenging times like today. The business process improvement service for SAP solutions can address these matters, based on best practices and the business process improvement tool suite in the SAP Solution Manager.
The next topic, covered by Eric Ma, was focusing on how business process improvement can increase process automation rates of running business processes. Higher process automation with less re-work enables customers to be more successful – but how can they do this? A very effective tool is the automation rate cockpit, which increases transparency and calculates saving potentials with anticipated automation rates. The equation is simple: the higher the automation with less correction, the higher the ROI and the lower the TCO.
The workshop continued with a discussion round led and facilitated by Lei Xu (China CoE, Manager Integration Validation / Business Process Operations), giving the participants the opportunity to share insights with their peers and the SAP experts about their experiences with achieving tangible business benefits within their SAP solution. This was then followed by the wrap up of day one by Linda Loeffler with a Q&A session and final feedback round.
Eric Ma opened the second day of the virtual workshop with a warm welcome to everyone and a brief recap of day one. He then shared some typical challenges during an SAP S/4HANA transition and how business process improvement can support that process, by highlighting relevant master and configuration data as well as identifying transactional backlog of old and obsolete business documents. He also emphasized that the cycle time between gaining transparency to identification root causes to creation of action plans and work packages within the transition project can be achieved in less than 4 weeks.
The next session was about how to improve the material flow and value chain using the Process Flow Insights by Sky Wang (China CoE Integration Validation).
With this, you are able to get the visualization for several business processes, and see directly the throughput of your process, the lead times between process steps and the corresponding backlog measurements. The kick start with a complete overview and navigation possibility into all different detailed dimensions.
After another discussion round led by Lei Xu about how the participants can use and leverage business process improvement in their organization, Linda Loeffler closed the second day and overall workshop with a final Q&A and feedback session.
The workshop has been hosted by the global CoE Business Process Improvement, reporting to Stefan Voll and the Customer Engagement Support team prepared and moderated it with highest quality. The overall feedback by customers was very positive and enthusiastic.
