SAP MCF installation on S4HANA with Customer Management

Hi Experts,

I am currently busy with a MCF deployment on a S4HANA server, with the Utilities industry specific solution. It also has the SAP S/4HANA FOR CUST MGMT 2.0 (CRM) product installed.

The Gateway has the UIS4MCF component installed, and configured (service & users).

Likewise, the MCF services & users have been set up on the S4H system.

Overally, when I execute the MCF_ISU template, I am able to log in, and access the components, all except the CRM functionalities.

  • There is no CRM system, the CRM functionality resides in the S4H system.
  • However, when I use the Developer Tools, on the screen, I can see it is trying to call an OData service in CRM_UTILITIES_UMC.
  • This is a CRM specific service, that I recognize from from an ECC and CRM deployment of MCF.
  • I checked in the S4H system, and this service does not exist, hence I cannot activate it, and even if I register the service in the Gateway it wont help, as the service will not be found.

Hence my questions is, is there perhaps an additional component that needs to be installed on the S4H system, which enables MCF to make us of the CUSTOMER MANAGEMENT (CRM), to which CRM_UTILITIES_UMC needs to be linked to?

Dear Ryno Meyer,

I know its too old post but we are also facing same issue while configuring MCF application.

There are many places where CRM service has been used in Public/Private application. We don't have so much time to use S4 UPIL OData service at place of CRM like suggested by @Yevgen Trukhin . Also lots of entities ,navigation , expand are missing in S4 UPIL OData.

How did you solved this issue in you case?

Hi yevgen.trukhin - Hope you're doing well. We've recently initiated S/4 Conversion journey. Our current landscape includes CRM, ECC (IS-U) and NWG (Exclusive Hub Deployment), you've been part of our project as reviewer in the past :).

We are opting for a safeguard approach for CRM so going for S/4 HANA Customer Engagement as part of CRM to S/4 Conversion. From NWG standpoint - our intention is to utilise S/4 HANA embedded foundation component instead of Central Hub so we can harmonise our landscape and make most of S/4 HANA stack.

Would be keen to hear your view around pros and cons and if you see any potential risk of going down Embedded approach.

Note: We also intend to have Fiori Apps in S/4 HANA that'll be accessed both through intranet as well as internet.

Thanks indeed for your time on this.

Hi Ryno, the UIS4MCF template ui is optimized to use S4 but for contract management it is still relying on side by side CRM for contract management. In the latest releases of S4 there was UPIL OData introduced for new Utilities product/material management and also contract management based on CM Sales Contract, you can check the following help documentation:

Since the template is just a sample application, you can switch to start using odata entities that are mentioned above.

Best Regards, Yevgen

Hello Ryno - if you have 1909 and are licensed for it, you don't need to install CRM but you do need to activate it - for the steps please download the cookbook following steps on page 6

Not sure if that will help the MCF issue; good luck

Hi Tammy, thank you for your feedback. I had a look, and activated the Enterprise Edition for Customer Management in our S4 system.

Unfortunately that did not enable any additional gateway services, to which I could point the MCF query.
