Hi,

can anyone explain as when to use the different catelog types? (eCommerce - Catelog Management)

manual, auto and both,

i could find how to configure on the help.sap, but not as when to use which catelog type,

a couple of scenarios as when to use which type would be really helpful.

Thanks,

Hi,

There are different types of catalogs:

a) Manual Product Assignment (catalog type: MANU) allows assigning products

manually from the product master to a catalog area.

b) Automatic Product Assignment (catalog type: AUTO) allows assigning a

product category to one or more catalog areas, which could also be part of

different catalogs. The products are automatically assigned to the corresponding

catalog areas through product categories.

c) Manual and automatic product assignment (catalog type: BOTH) uses both

product assignments in one catalog.

Catalog type determines:

a) Type of product assignment (manual, automatic or both)

b) Text determination procedure for catalog areas and product items

c) Type of documents that are transferred for the products taken from the product

master (only valid for automatic product assignment)

d) Types of documents for product items (only valid for product assignment)

e) Document types for catalog areas

Wish the Information is useful.

Hi,

Its all depends of scenarios:

If you keep on frequently adding product lines and you have to manage lot of catelog, you can do it automated catalog and thus would be able to automatically generate catalogs based on parameters such as product hierarchy.

If you have small amount of catelogs to manage and you don't have very dynamic business, as if you don't had very often new product lines, also you cannot categories the products as per some fix criteria, then u can use manual catelogs.

Thank you guys

but from the maintenance perspective for the client after the go live, how difficult will it be to maintain/modify the catelog based on what catelog type it is?

our client has two scenarios, where in one they have whole of lot of possible combinations (they are not like regular products, but more like custom made based on customer's request...) and in other scenario they have a small list of items.

so would i be better off going with BOTH? or i am not sure...

P.S. i gave points to both of you

Hi,

Based on you input, it is always an efficient way to use BOTH, which gives lot of flexibility. Also suits your requirement.

Hi,

Infact as per your scenario req. go for Both.. i.e auto updates + manual entries.. but yes do keep in mind one thing, you need to decide upon your catelog a day before you want it in effect as system cache would refresh at 12:00 AM midnight and then new catelog would be in effect, else you have to manually refresh the system cache.
