default value to a relation target element

Is it possible to give default value to a relation's target element. Say, I have a one to many relation from product to price user group. Is it possible to give a default value to user group in items.xml. there is no tag like for relation.

There's no way to do this via items.xml. You might consider writing a Prepare Interceptor.
