Configuration profile definition

Dear,

I have material A as finished good configurable, with a super bill defined at all levels of the hierarchical BoM.

The first level of BoM is made by configurable components.

I created the configuration profile for material A and all its components:

- Material A: profile with process SET, multi-level BoM explosion

- Components: profile with process ORDER BOM, multi-level BoM explosion

Is this the correct setting?

I have doubts about the profile ORDER BOM for the components.

At least it is an allowed combination of profile settings: 148778 - Combination of configuration profile scenarios - SAP for Me

I think Order BOM is only used if you want to allow changes to the BOM by engineering during the sales process: Process: Order BOM | SAP Help Portal

If you don't need SET for "You can use this processing type to describe variant products that comprise salable configurable materials. These products are supplied together, but are not assembled in a production order." (Process: Sales Order | SAP Help Portal), then you could also use profile Plnd/Prod. Order with multi-level explosion for all levels. If components are flagged as sales relevant in sales BOM or universal BOM, you will also see them as items in the order.

I tried to use profile Plnd/Prod. Order with multi-level explosion for all levels but during sales order creation, it is asking the configuration of the components.

Since no profile and class is assigned to them, I cannot configure them and in the end the super bill is not exploded based on the dependencies.

Any ideas about how to proceed?
