Sorry if this is not the right place but would appreciate any advice on this, thanks.

I can`t install Crystal Reports 2016 on my Windows 11 laptop. I have tried it on a Windows 8.1 desktop it is fine.
This is what I`ve done to try and get it working:
1. Set to full access the folder C:\Program Files (x86)\SAP BusinessObjects and install folder c:\BOE
2. Renamed C:\Program Files (x86)\SAP BusinessObjects\InstallData\setup.engine_temp to setup.engine (this ensures that the install fails later than before with a Failed to update cache for execution error. If I don`t do this I get a Failed to update setup engine executables error).
3. Run as Admin
4. Rename the "C:\Program Files (x86)\SAP BusinessObjects\setup.exe" to "setup.exe.old"
5. Emptied User Temp folder

Log files:
ErrosandWarnings.log: Error: Could not move temp dest folder to dest folder.
setupengine.log - same error

If I don`t carry out step 2. above then
ErrosandWarnings.log: Can`t rename: C:\Program Files (x86)\SAP BusinessObjects\InstallData\setup.engine_temp to: C:\Program Files (x86)\SAP BusinessObjects\InstallData\setup.engine
setupengine.log - same error

There is a webpage explaining the Failed to update cache for execution error:

but I get 401 Not Authorized (when logged in) if I click on Read more...

What version, Support Pack, are you trying to install?

You need to be using CR 2020 SP 3 to be supported on Windows 11, earlier versions won't install properly if using one of them.

You can get SP 4 from here, download the latest one if you are not using it:

SAP Crystal Reports 2020 SP04 - ONE

From the error it suggests you don't have rights to rename folders. Check with your IT Department, likely cause is your Admin rights may be modified, you can do other things but not install. Or your AV software is blocking you from installing. Get someone who has full Admin rights to install for you. When it denies you from renaming if you have full rights it should prompt you to give permission to rename, if not you don't have full rights.

Check your AV logs to see if it's blocking you, try right clicking on the setup.exe and select the option to add to Trusted Applications.

FYI, the default install folder for CR is:

C:\Program Files (x86)\SAP BusinessObjects\Crystal Reports

Go here and the time stamp folder of your last install:

C:\Program Files (x86)\SAP BusinessObjects\InstallData\logs...\setupengine.log

It should catch the error also, see if there is any errors logged with more info.

As for the KBA, it's gated which is why you can't Read More. You need a support contract to get the details. Also, that KBA is very old, 2014 and doesn't give you any info anyways for current versions.

Unfortunately you can't get a support for Crystal Reports Designer, you can get one if you purchase CR Server 2020 for 1 year, but it also costs $1000.

If you have had a previous version of CRD install go to Programs and Features and uninstall it first, if you can't then it's definitely a permission issue.

Try re-booting also, sometimes when attempting to install it's best to close everything and try again, could be some third party application is blocking the install. Close all programs before installing.

Thanks, it's the version I'm using. SAP.com have confirmed this as well.
