Hello Everyone,

In this blog post i share with you regarding the marking of old Retail UI as deprecated, the message in the login screen in SAP Customer Checkout 2.0 FP11 and some background and future plans.

In SAP Customer Checkout 2.0 FP11, in the UI mode you notice that the Retail is marked as "Old UI Deprecated" and login screen for old UI we show "This user interaface is deprecated, ...." as shown in the screenshots below. I want to share with you some back-ground and some future plans around this.

Regarding the old Retail UI.
We want to move away from the old Retail UI and position the new angular UI(which was initially available for Quick Service and Table Service) as the UI mode for the Retail Service, i assume should not come as a surprise to anyone. We have been very vocal about moving away from the old Retail UI and have also constantly highlighted that. We did accelerate on this plan in recent releases.

We have not made any enhancements in the old Retail UI for a while. Many of our new functionality like Coupons Management, Event Ticketing integration, Changing tax codes, warehouses for whole receipt, customization of payment area, several loyalty management features and many more – are all supported in the new user interface ONLY.

In FP10(Released in October 2020), in new UI we delivered critical functions like Invoice Payment, Sales Order integration together with SAP BusinessOne and other missing pieces and marked the Retail UI as "to-be deprecated soon".

In FP11(Released in March 2021), in new UI we delivered some missing pieces for ByDesign like “special sales item” and others and marked the Retail as Deprecated with a  message in the login screen that this UI mode is deprecated.

We have not removed the old Retail UI in FP11. We do not plan to remove the old retail UI in FP12(Tentatively planned for Q3/2021).
However at some point in time in future feature pack/release we plan to remove old Retail UI. The exact feature pack and date is not decided, hence I cannot offer you a fixed date.

If you are using the old Retail UI, as a customer and partner you should definitely start making a transition plan from old Retail UI to new Retail UI.

The new user interface(Retail Service) also supports plugin concept like old Retail UI. However whether your old plugins will work or not depends upon the plugin code. In general plugin needs to be verified for each new Feature Pack. Things like changes in print template should continue to work.  Changes in application logic(depending on use case to use case) should continue to work, however pure UI changes will not work and needs to be redeveloped for new User Interface.

As I mentioned that no new development in done in old Retail UI, and sooner or later it will be removed, developing skills in new UI and start preparing a transition plan for the customer should be part of your planning.

In general, we do receive very positive feedback about the new user interface.
And we will continue to invest in new user interface to provide a superior user experience and enriched functionality.

In this blog, you have learnt about history and plans with the Old Retail UI and new UI.
Best of luck with your journey to move from old Retail UI to new Retail UI.
