Recordings (Day 1, Day 2, Day 3) and presentation slides

On October 27-29, 2020, the virtual SAP MaxAttention Innovation workshop “Business Technology Platform – Accelerate transforming data to business value” took place. This wrap-up blog provides an overview about the focus topics of the workshop.

The workshop offered an interactive platform for SAP Premium Engagement customers to learn how the SAP’s Business Technology Platform can accelerate the transformation to an Intelligent Enterprise, exchange experiences, learn from peers about their advancements in that area, and ask SAP experts questions.

SAP Business Technology Platform is the foundation of the Intelligent Enterprise

In recent years a strong focus on the transformation to an Intelligent Enterprise is observed. Emerging technologies such as machine learning, artificial intelligence, and IoT enable businesses to innovate, optimize experience, and automate processes, thus putting the Intelligent Enterprise in place and giving the companies a head start. SAP Business Technology Platform (SAP BTP) provides foundational components for the Intelligent Enterprise as it represents a portfolio of integrated solutions to support the transformation of data into business value.

Understandably, customers want to get more insights into the four key pillars of the SAP Business Technology Platform: database and data management, analytics, application development & integration, as well as intelligent technologies, in order to learn how SAP Business Technology Platform helps turn data into business value.

SAP MaxAttention Innovation Workshop: How organizations can leverage SAP Business Technology Platform to turn data into business value

The SAP MaxAttention Innovation Workshop “SAP Business Technology Platform” focused on

  • How companies can put the strategic vision of the SAP Business Technology Platform into action on an engineering and architectural level

  • How companies can use the components of the SAP Business Technology Platform to turn large amount of data into information with efficient Total Cost of Ownership

  • How these information assets can be used as innovation catalysts to influence business outcomes

  • How integration and extension frameworks can accelerate development, drive innovation and keep the SAP S/4HANA core clean

  • Last but not least, how MaxAttention can help to innovate, accelerate, integrate and extend while transforming to an Intelligent Enterprise

Helmut Grimm, Global Vice President of Customer Innovation & Strategy within the Technology and Innovation Board area at SAP, introduced the key elements of the Intelligent Enterprise and provided a historical and visionary view on SAP Business Technology Platform: “Business perspective is very important. What is meant by this: we don’t build technology capabilities for the sake of technology, there is a business need and enterprise vision in each element.

Mirko Paul, Chief Product Manager of Cross-Product Architecture within the SAP Technology and Innovation Board continued with the SAP Business Technology Platform architecture view and demonstrated how integration scenarios can be enabled using the SAP API Business Hub. Helmut and Mirko also gave a preview on the SAP One Domain Model and how it can be used to exchange data between business applications of the Intelligent Suite and its ecosystem. A uniform domain model was considered to be one of the top challenges by the participants when realizing the Intelligent Enterprise.

Several other presentations given by architects from the Global CoE North America provided further deep insights into key pillars of SAP Business Technology Platform.

Mastery of the SAP Business Technology Platform capabilities gives you a new superpower: a Data Superpower

Selvakumar Sithavan e.g. demonstrated customer examples leveraging components of the SAP Business Technology Platform such as using SAP’s data management solutions to improve customer service and to secure better contract closure. Most of the participating customers already leverage components of SAP Business Technology Platform in their overall Intelligent Enterprise strategy and look to expand further, hence were very interested in other customer use cases.

Anja-Katja Kerber gave an introduction into the Data Superpower or the Data Value Chain of Span, Amount, Quality and Value. This presentation was superseded by tangible customer examples how business value of data can be exposed. E.g. a customer in the automotive industry saw immediate value and reduced TCO - which was considered as main benefit by the participants when moving to cloud based solutions - by leveraging SAP Analytics Cloud and standard embedded analytics content in SAP S/4HANA. A demonstration provided by Vivek RR of an end-to-end scenario blending multiple data sources into a unified data model exposed to the SAP Analytics Cloud rounded up the Data Superpower Story.

SAP Cloud Platform to Simplify Integrations, Accelerate Extensions and Expand Business Value

Most of the participant questions and interactions were given during the introduction of the integration and extension suite portfolio of the SAP Cloud Platform by Tristan Hu and Ashok Kumar. Participants showed a very large interest in the functionalities of the SAP Cloud Platform Integration, which is with 1,500+ pre-build integrations, the most used integration service among the participants. Ashok Kumar also explained the concept of side-by-side extensibility and in-app extensibility and introduced an easy to consume decision matrix and use cases when to use which concept.

The workshop participants provided feedback that they gained a large amount of new insights regarding the service offerings and SAP’s portfolio during the workshop. One participant remarked “I really like the content provided and shared (especially for Day 3 – Integration and Extension)”

The workshop was rounded up by Edgar Carranza and Haibo Huang with an explanation on the SAP Innovation Services portfolio which can be leveraged to either quickly bring innovation ideas to life or to drive strategic continuous innovation at scale and build-up innovation capabilities, mindset, and culture. We look forward to engaging with our customers exploring their Intelligent Enterprise ideas and supporting them bringing these innovative ideas into life by leveraging SAP Business Technology Platform.
