SAP Labs India’s Bazaar design inspired Apphaus was inaugurated recently. The Apphaus workspace is meant to provide an ingenious environment for SAP’s developers to work on new products. In Bangalore, the essence was to absorb an Indian flavor which meant that the Bazaar apphaus was completely open – no ceiling and no desks or corner offices to provide an open, flexible environment for working and creating an office space that nurtures experiments and innovation.
SAP Labs India’s IT team played a key role in accommodating and fulfilling this design as this was not the usual office space that we setup before and posed several challenges. Numerous ad hoc changes had to be incorporated during the roll out of this facility. No ceiling meant that we had to come up with different methods to do cabling and no desks meant that entire network connectivity for end users is on Wi-Fi. Lync was enabled for voice and collaboration.
We worked extensively with the Architects to ensure conduits for network and audio-visual equipment were tidy and lay across the floor. In order to support the setup on wireless we coordinated with the Network team to verify wireless signal and generated heat maps to ensure sufficient access point coverage across the Apphaus space. In addition, the location of the communication was room was changed due to the overall design. We also synced regularly with GFM and various vendors.
Apart from the office space we also supported the setup of meeting rooms and the Apphaus Café. Requirements for meeting room equipment was standard – projectors, phones and video conferencing. The café had to be provisioned with audio-visual setup that supported presentation of static and dynamic content from multiple sources.
Delivering desired outcome despite numerous changes to the scope of the project was assured with keen attention to details, effective coordination across various teams and vendors and utilizing our experience from past projects.
Feedback from internal and external customers (Walmart, Asian Paints and Colgate to name a few) was phenomenal. The IT team was appreciated and thanked for providing the best solutions.
