Have you heard of “related content” functionality on the SAP Road Map Explorer tool?

After SAP Road Map Explorer grew out of PDF-based road maps, the vision behind the tool was to help customers make informed decisions by providing them with the most up-to-date road map information. More than 94,000 (as of June 24, 2021) external users have used the tool so far, and this gives the message loud and clear that SAP Road Map Explorer has been delivering to the needs of users.

However, it is not the time to stop implementing new features to the tool.

Added in 2021, related content functionality provides you with the bigger picture for some of the road maps, either by linking a storyboard or other types of documents.

The expert view, or the Kanban board, offers elaborate and granular details of the delivered and planned product features by quarter and year. Now, on top of these detailed updates to product information, related content functionality offers you the chance to connect the dots.

Have you been enjoying the granularity of the road maps but missing the product overview or how the innovations listed on SAP Road Map Explorer relate to the general direction of the industry or product you are interested in?

Then we have your back! This new feature on the tool positions the existing assets that can provide the mid- and long-term strategic view to the detailed road map view.

How to use the related content functionality

The related content button is available right next to the filters, such as quarters, products, and industries options, above the Kanban board (see Figure 1).

A new browser will open when you click the related content button, which will subsequently take you either to the storyboard (see Figure 2) or other assets linked to the specific road map. By implementing this feature, SAP Road Map Explorer connects detailed product information to the additional assets to show you the bigger picture for a specific road map.

Introduced last February, this functionality allows you to reach related content simply with one click, which outlines the strategic direction for many products and industries.

Please note that you may not see additional assets using the related content functionality for all road maps on SAP Road Map Explorer because such links to the storyboard or other documents are available so long as an asset is maintained in the back end.
