Interactive, interesting, and informative. Three keywords we heard from several participating teachers and multiplicators in our Trainer’s Thursday. In 2021, we supported in 10 monthly sessions of 2 hours each our community of trainers to shape the education of tomorrow by giving them input around teaching 21
st Century Skills.
Thank you for this interesting and entertaining session, which covered so many different aspects of the topic. ~anonymous feedback
SAP Young Thinkers Trainers Thursday
How it started:
Digital Learning is on the move – not just since the pandemic. And it’s not only new to learners. Teachers and trainers of all kinds are challenged to keep pace with technological advances and create cutting-edge learning opportunities, that excite the learners for the future.
To foster the exchange of experience and knowledge among trainers and hence support them in this mission, the
SAP Young Thinkers started into 2021 with a new initiative: the
Trainer’s Thursday – a new monthly virtual training series around 21
st Century Skills including coding, software, and business in education.
How it proceeded:
In January and February we started with the sessions “What sets Snap! apart?” and “Introduction into MicroBlocks” lead by Bernat Romagosa, Co-Developer of both platforms. With explaining the basics of
Snap! and
Microblocks we made the first steps to give everyone the chance to dive deeper into two versatile visual programming languages, that are perfectly suitable for implementing coding in education. In the session “What is EduGaming”,
leon_steiner and
anna_nele_trost have taken us on a journey through different options of turning learning into a game. After the introduction in January, Snap!-Fans and -Newbies have been given the chance to pick up input by four Snap! - experts in the session “Ideas for Teaching YOUR First Snap! – Workshop!” in April. A next highlight came up in May. Together with Festo Didactics and the SAP4school IUS Team, a way “From ERP to the Learning Factory” in education has been shown. With the
SAP4school IUS curriculum SAP ERP can be learned as an integrated business software in a practical way. When used together with
Festo's learning environment in factory automation, processes don’t end virtually, but even turn into real production orders in a model factory or factory simulation. This has been demonstrated to the attendees in an impressive way. In the session “Dive into Deeper Learning – Discover a new Learning Culture” in June, Dr. Anne Sliwka and Janina Beigel from the University of Heidelberg shared holistic learning concepts with our community. Right before the break in August, our participants of the session in July, learned “Physical Snap!ing” by
jadga.huegle and Jens Mönig. The laws of optics, acoustics, mechanics, and more have been modeled using Snap! and many ways of implementing this into Physics or CS lessons have been shared. In September John Maloney showed amazing MicroBlocks projects using several sensors in the session “Making Sense of Sensors”.
Another 21
st Century Skill has been captured in October: Artificial Intelligence. With an introduction into the new IT2School modules around AI, launched by our partner
Wissensfabrik, the first steps have been taken to enable the participants to “Rock in Teaching Artificial Intelligence with IT2School”. We wrapped up the Year 2021 with a joint session with the
HPI school of Design Thinking in November: “Design Thinking: Gamechanger for Education”. The participants made their first hands-on experiences as Design Thinker and got new input on how learning can look like in the future.
What it became:
10 sessions, 10 different topics, nearly 500 registrations, and 25 engaged community members as session leads of 11 partner institutions – a full success to support the trainers in our community to shape the learning of tomorrow.
Thanks that you take the effort to put such great presentations together. It really helps us teachers not only to know what is possible but also to implement them into practice in our classrooms. I left todays session with at least three ideas what to implement next. ~anonymous feedback
The live sessions are recorded and available on the
replay platform with additional material to go on with. Besides the full recordings, the “Trainer’s Tip” captures the essence of the session in a single minute. If you want to get the key messages of the sessions in 2021, check out
this playlist. Over the last 12 month we created a library of experience and knowledge from which trainers worldwide can draw inspiration.
