How can i add my new column into MD16 screen?

Hi, I have a requipment for MD16 screen that i want to add new column (e.g. material description) into MD16 Screen. i try the user-exit LMDZU001EXIT_SAPLMDZU_003. But it is no successful.

MD16 already has the Material Desc Column.... Please check the Table Control Layout... (Click on Right-Top Corner)

I follow your instruction, i found the field RM61P-MAKTX into layout , but the filed length is zero. how can i change this. thank your reply!
