Hello community,
a new SAP NW AS ABAP 7.01 SP03 version with the Standard SAPINST installer (note: the "trial version" is beta!) and optimzed single user memory consumption (~2GB pagefile) is available for testing purposes.
NOTE: The installation step "LOAD DATABASE" may take up to 8h depending on your harddisk (1h on a fast disk). Next release will install faster.
Recommended: Use Download Manager

There is a nice wiki entry regarding this topic:
http://wiki.sdn.sap.com/wiki/pages/viewpage.action?pageId=156697029
in short:
The two versions are similar but not identical.
developer for developers, trial for companies
also check the different license terms.
Please Thorsten, which version of winrar did you use to extracting .rar files ? I have tried with winrar 3.90 and have the CRC error.
Thanks.

hello my friends,
here i am again with a question...As i told before, i managed to install netweaver in a virtual machine with vmware, with windows7 as the OS system.
Sucessfully, if i enter my vitrual machine i can connect to the netweaver. But my question is the following, is there anyway to connect to the netweaver system in the virtual machine but through my Host System, i mean from my original OS ?
best regards,
Ricardo Monteiro

Hi. I have had the trial version successfully up and running for some time now. Two issues....
1) How do I renew the licence?!
2) I cant get Webdynpro applications to display, nor the layout preview when developing views. I am wondering if this is because when I installed I did not know how to specify a DNS Domain Name, used to calculate the fully qualified domain name, configured in profile parameter SAPLOCALHOSTFULL (I'm copying out the screen in the setup!)
When I try to display a webdypro app or preview I get...
(I am running on a laptop with Windows Vista, with microsoft loopback adaptor installed)

you can prevent SAPinst from loggin you off:
previously4.1.3How to Avoid Automatic Logoff by SAPinst
When you install the SAP system with SAPinst, the SAPinst installation tool checks whether the user account used for the installation has the required privileges and authorization.
For a domain installation, the account needs to be both a member of the local Administrators group and the domain Admins group. For a local installation, the account needs to be a member of the local group Administrators group.
In both cases, the user account must be authorized to do the following:"ı4DÊ
Act as part of the operating system"ı4DÊ
Adjust memory quotas for a process"ı4DÊ
Replace a process level token
If the user account does not have these rights assigned, SAPinst assigns them and automatically logs the account off to activate them. To avoid SAPinst logging the account off, you can set these rights manually before you start the installation.
Procedure
You perform the following steps to assign these rights to the user account used for the installation.
CAUTION
Be aware that domain policies override locally defined policies. This means that if you want to grant domain administrator rights to a user who belongs to the local Administrators group, make sure that you have also defined domain administrator rights for this user on domain level.
1.
Choose StartSettingsControl PanelAdministrative ToolsLocal Security Policy.
2.
In the Local Security Settings window, choose Local PoliciesUser Rights Assignment..
4 Installation
4.1 Installing an SAP System Using SAPinst
3.
Double-click the required right under Policy and choose Add User or Group.
4.
In the Select Users and Groups window, choose the required user and choose Add.
The selected user appears in the box below.
5.
Confirm your entry and then repeat the steps for each remaining policy that the user requires for the installation.
6.
Log off and log on again to apply the changes.
Hi there Oliver,
i tried what you said and also disabled the "User Account Control" from Vista, but i still get the error that

Hallo all,
while installing ABAP Trial 7.01 SP03 on WinXP (32-bit) I came accross two issues I'd like to share to spare others the grief:
1. The issue with the registry key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\...' does not exist on the 'localhost' host.
In my case this was due to the anti virus software I had installed on my system. Several other posts on the Internet hint in the same direction, that this is a general problem. My suggestion is to deinstall your antivirus software, do the SAP NW installation and reinstall AV-software afterwards again. Simply stoping the AV-service didn't work for me.
You can of cause also circumvent this problem if you install in a virtual machine with no virus protection at all.
2. Corrupt file in SAPNWABAP701SR1_TRIAL.part2.rar (SAP_NetWeaver_701_SR1_Export\DATA_UNITS\EXP1\DATA REPOSRC.001)
When I first unpacked SAPNWABAP701SR1_TRIAL.part2.rar 7-zip complained about not being able to unpack REPOSRC.001.
As it finally turned out, this is not because of a corrupted archive/download. The reason was 7-zip itself. WinRAR will unpack the same archive just fine.
Hope that helps
Thorsten
Hi all
seemed to install very much faster on Windows 7 x-64 in "XP compatability mode" than on a native XP machine -- strange
Note you need to have a 64 bit CPU with VT enabled to use the new Microsoft XPM Windows 7 "XP compatability Mode" but it's fine.
(Normal VM software such as VMWARE workstation / server or Virtual Box will also work for installing this trial on a Virtual Machine).
Cheers

@ Oliver, I have the SAP MMC loaded and run, but when I launched the MMC, it didn't detect my NSP(SAP system) at all. I wonder that was because I installed JRE 6 instead of 1.4.2 as the notes said. But if i remembered correctly, there's a member who is running JRE 6 with this trial without any error.

Crashes out on Windows 7 X-64 build 7100 (RC).
Starts and at stage 2 you need to install VERY VERY old JRE (??? 1.4.2)
Then after about 5 mins
Windows 7 throws up message SAPINST.EXE has stopped working ????
SAP MMC console snapin (X-64) installs fine.
(On a Windows XP virtual machine it's fine but we really ought to be moving on now -- even if W7 is too new we shouldn't have to install a REALLY OLD JRE (1.4.2) version even on Windows XP to get this to work).
Loads of people I know will 100% skip VISTA and go straight to W7 from XP or Windows 2008 Server.
Cheers
jimbo

Hello everyone,
So I installed this trial on my 32-bit windows XP pro, and it was a successful. It might sounds silly, but now how do i start the application server? on the previous versions, there would be a "STARTSYSTEM.CMD", but on this one, it was no where to be located. Can someone show me how to start up the server? Thanks.

Hi - I am trying this as I have had no luck installing the previous version of SAP NW AS ABAP 7.01.
The first time it stopped at a screen saying 'Starting program, please wait', which seemed to have ended with some sort of error - I left it overnight, and it the morning my machine had gone asleep and the installtion had halted, the screen had disappeared.
The second time, I continued with the installation...
What do I put for the DNS domain name in the parameters screen? I tried guessed values, all of which were rejected saying 'Cannot resolve host'. There was a SAP note with more information, but I tried it, and I dont have a password for the SAP service market place, nor did F1 help work.
For the time being I unchecked the tick box to specify a DNS domain name, and continued. As I write, it is about half way through the installation, so far so good, but should I expect problems with the lack of DNS?

hmm. good question. I never have been asked for DNS. Providing the hostname (or even LOCALHOST), also without domain like xxx.mycorp.com is sufficient. Probably a network config problem, or you dont have one (Laptop).
In that case you have to configure MS Loopback adapter as descirbed in the short docu.
BR, Oliver
I have installed the Microsoft loopback adaptor, and I still got asked for a DNS entry. However I've unchecked it and continued...
After now several attempts at installing and uninstalling and trying again, I got this on the last attempt - this was after starting a new installation and choosing the 'copy to a new folder' option rather than continuing with the former installation... (It said 'Please inform the installation development' at the end)
