Thanks to everybody, the problem was fixed. It was related to a security issue in the client for execution of activeX controls.

Thanks

Hi Sergio!

Did you try to disable your antivirus when you login Excel? Just for the test... Put it back on after.

There are 2 or 3 separate known issues that could be causing this, each specific to a particular MS Windows or MS Office automatic update patch. Almost definitely it's a client-side issue; you can confirm this by trying to log in from a different client machine (such as the server itself, if you have Excel installed there.)

Back in BPC 5.0 SP2, there was a really fun one, caused by KB921503 from MS. That one has definitely been fixed in BPC 5.1, but it caused a lot of headaches.

If you're not running the most recent version of BPC (5.1 SP3), the easiest solution may be to upgrade BPC now, on both the server & client.

If that's not an option, and/or you prefer to know the true cause of the problem, you'll need to know (on your client machine) the particular Excel version, the specific Windows OS version, and then also know all the automatic updates that Windows has applied to this machine.

Best bet is to file a note with Support; they'll be able to help you out on your specific problem.

Hi Sergio,

Is it that you were able to connect before and now you are getting an error or are you trying to connect for the first time? If you are connecting for the first time, you may want to install the Microsoft Office client software for BPC.
