The first ZOOMin (Innovation Day) is just a week away. On April 16, 2015 we’re going to have a full day’s worth of exciting presentations and demos about the latest and greatest in the Internet of Things (IoT). From 10:30am to 5pm, the atrium of Building 8 in Palo Alto will be filled with people eager to connect, share and be inspired about anything related to IoT.

Two keynotes will be delivered by Stanford professors, one about designing human-robot relationships by Larry Leifer, a professor of mechanical engineering design and founding director of the Center for Design Research (CDR), and the other about Stanford’s approach to innovation and trends in technology by Jay Borenstein from the Computer Science Department.

Numerous interactive sessions will follow, including a presentation by Fujitsu about smart connected operations, another about how the City of Boston is making use of public data to offer contextualized information to residents, and yet another from the Cloud for Customer (C4C) team about how drones are being used by electricity utility companies to service power transmission lines in the remotest of areas. A presentation by Damien Murphy will reveal the latest innovations coming out of the Mobility Innovation Center, including Apple Watch Cloud for Customer, and others yet will focus on Dubai’s smart city initiative and IoT using 3D cameras.

The IoT Ideathon will take place a week before, on April 8. This will be a guided brainstorming workshop where employee teams will develop IoT related ideas. The teams will then have the chance to present their ideas to a panel of judges at ZOOMin on April 16 to win cool prizes. The top two teams will also qualify for the Intrapreneurship program.  The winners will be announced at the celebrations that follow in the Building 8 cafeteria, along with drinks, hors d’oeuvres, and arcade games. IoT Ideathon welcomes all employees to participate.
