Wow! SAP TechEd Amsterdam was another successful event for attendees that wanted to learn more about SAP Screen Personas. We had many sessions with a mix of technical information and examples of how customers are using Personas to drive productivity through personalization.

Steve Rumsby talked about how he built intuitive screens for maintenance people at the University of Warwick. A special thanks to Steve for attending several other Personas sessions and answering questions about his personal experiences with the product. My favorite quote from Steve “it only took about 15 minutes to install the Personas add-on and maybe another 45 minutes to complete all the configuration steps. Everything was quite clear in the documentation; you just have to read it and follow all the steps.” (Italics added by Peter.)

Martin Lang from SAP IT spoke about two use cases where we are using Personas internally. He made a very clear case for the business value of Personas, especially for new users that are not familiar with SAP GUI.

See Martin’s presentation on how SAP IT is using SAP Screen Personas.

As always, Sebastian Steinhauer dazzled the audiences with crisp demos and clear answers to even the most technical questions. He addressed “standing room only” crowds and had a long line of people waiting to ask questions long after the sessions were officially over. According to one of the official monitor’s that counted attendees in Hall 10 (where all the speaker sessions were held), one of Sebastian’s Personas sessions was the most popular speaker session!

No recorded demos from the event; you had to be there.

Sylvia Barnard also attracted some crowds when she shared her perspectives on Personas from the vantage point of product owner. When she was not conducting an expert session, she tirelessly worked the booth and discussed how SAP Screen Personas fits into SAP’s broader UX strategy, along with Fiori and SAP UI5.

Peter Spielvogel also drew large audiences with his many Personas sessions. He won the “big crowd” award in Hall 8 (home to all the expert sessions) with the largest attendance for his “SAP Screen Personas and SAP Fiori” session. Special thanks to Jordi Paris of Accenture, who shared his experience deploying both products at a customer site. Also thank you to sharon.agam of the Fiori team for answering some questions about Fiori. My biggest appreciation is the many people who attended multiple Personas sessions and asked great questions that helped raise the knowledge for everyone present.

In the penultimate session of the conference, the 2-hour Personas deep-dive attracted over a hundred people who wanted to learn more about the product, its architecture, and how to build screens and assign them to different user groups. While most of the session was an extended demo/tutorial, you can see the slides we used from session CD108 “SAP Screen Personas: The Power to Improve your User Experience”. For more details on Personas and a chance to try it on your own, we recommend you attend the next 2-day training workshop.

Look for a post next week that includes several video interviews from the event.
