The Business Scenario looks like this:
A large number of records need to be transferred from a DataSource to an InfoProvider.
The aim is to transfer the data gradually to minimize the reporting downtime. This means loading the most current data in the first step,
followed by the historical data on the weekends.
The solution shows how to decouple the delta data from the full data loads by using the
DTP (Data Transfer Process) Processing Mode "No Data Transfer; Delta Status in Source; Fetched".
The Step by Step solution, the Overview:
The steps are divided into different scenarios. The first scenario contains the steps are necessary to establish the delta extraction from the source system.
- Common Steps executed in SAP ERP system and BI to initialize the delta handling
The second scenario contains the steps those are necessary, if the historical data needs to be transferred from the Source System into the SAP NetWeaver BI InfoProvider directly.
- (A) Extract the historical data from the source system directly into the InfoProvider
The third scenario contains the steps those are necessary, if the historical data needs to be transferred from the Source System into the PSA/Data Source first and later into the InfoProvider.
- (B) Extract the historical data from the source system into the PSA first and not into the InfoProvider directly
The fourth scenario, contains the steps those are necessary to load the historical data from the PSA/DataSource into the InfoProvider in a separate load process.
- (C) Load the historical data from the PSA into the InfoProvider
Usually the used scenarios can differ from implementation to implementation. The correct steps need to be defined case by case.
In this example the Scenario B and C would be used to fulfill the requirements described in the Business Scenario.
Please find the detailed steps for the different scenarios below.
Detailed steps per scenario:
Common steps executed in SAP ERP system and BI to initialize the delta handling
1. Stop booking in SAP ERP
2. Fill Setup tables in SAP ERP e.g. for logistic (DataSource: 2LIS_03_BF)
3. Init delta InfoPackage with or w/o data transfer, dependent on the scenario
Scenario A: Init delta InfoPackage with data transfer
Scenario B and C: Init delta InfoPackage w/o data transfer
4. Start booking in SAP ERP
5. Schedule delta Load data with normal process chain (including Delta InfoPackage and delta DTP)
(A) Get the historical data out of the source system directly into the InfoProvider
A1. Stop Delta Process Chain (5)
A2. Load data with full InfoPackage and Selections
A3. Delta DTP to propagate the data into the InfoProvider
A4. Start Delta Process Chain (5)
(B) Get the historical data out of the source system into the PSA first and not directly into the InfoProvider
B1. Stop Delta Process Chain (5)
B2. Load data with full InfoPackage and Selections into the PSA (store the selection criterias)
B3. Init DTP w/o data transfer
B4. Schedule Delta Process Chain (5)
(C) Load the historical data from the PSA into the InfoProvider
C1. Stop Delta Process Chain (5)
C2. Load a Full DTP with same selection criteria in B2 from the PSA into the InfoCube
C3. Start Delta Process Chain (5)
