......In The Beginning
This is my first attempt at writing a blog so please be patient while I try to work out what to say.
I've often thought about blogging but just haven't ever found the time to put down on paper all the things that go through my head. Having said that, I'm not sure it would be a good idea to make some of those thoughts public!
As this is my first effort I'll just give a very brief overview of my career to date.
I started working in IT during the last century, 1989 to be more precise. My first job was as an operator on the Finance department's AS/400, running daily jobs & reports for various accounts type people. After a couple of years I was given the opportunity to start programming in RPG (Report Program Generator) and continued with this until early 1996. At this point my company made the decision to implement SAP and hand-picked 8 programmers from across the company to learn ABAP and I was one of the (un)lucky ones. I stuck at this for 18 months before the lure of big money (well it seemed like it at the time) dragged me off to one of the leading consultancy firms in the UK. I stayed with them until four years ago when they rewarded my 12 years of hard work with redundancy. This led me into self-employment, which was something I'd always wanted to do but had always been slightly afraid of.
Four years later I'm probably the happiest I've been in my working life - long may it continue.
Anyway, that's me.
